I'm remaining positive. The guy is on par with Zherdev's GOAL production, and if you go by jBuds assessment, he fits the description of a "Torts type player".

Not a bad player. Not really sure how I feel about it but I definitely see a move coming now. They have too many forwards ready to play now.

Drury
Dubinsky
Callahan
Avery
Gaborik
Kotalik
Korpikoski
Brashear
Boyle
Anisimov
Byers
Zherdev
Higgins

Plus players like:
Arnason
Grachev
Kveton
Dupont
Voros
Rissmiller

There just arent enough spots for all of these players. Sather better be making a deal soon.

I know that Kveton has talent, and performed well in the Czech League. I just don't think the Rangers were going to give him a shot to make the team.

As much as I don't want to replace Z with Kotalik, Kotalik is a good signing for the third line and PP and this is true. If a couple of seasons hadn't been shortened by injury, Kotalik is a consistent 20 goal, 40 point guy over his career with some higher peaks, putting up 62 points with Drury one year. I would love us to find a way to keep Z. If we can package Roszival + Korpikoski for a cheaper defenseman and leave enough money to make all the necessary re-signings than I'd be thrilled.

HA, it sounds like Antropov. Honestly. Except Kotalik isnt coming off of a career year. People wanted Atropov over Zherdev, they may get Kotalik for less than Antropov and he is much healthier.

where are you people hearing he hated edmonton? after the season he said he would love to stay in edmonton, but oilers have to much money spent on bad contracts.

Weakness is the fact that he's so big but not physical in the least.

As long as you don't overpay, its a good signing.

Thanks for the analysis, jBuds.

Good to know that we can get a fair review of him, pros and cons alike, and not just some bashfest now that he left Buffalo.

I think its a little silly to be complaining about his acquisition at this point.

I would be shocked if Sather walks away from a Zherdev arbitration award. And people are talking like its already happened. I would expect that Sather would move Zherdev for at least something. If Kotalik was signed as a replacement for Zherdev, then you need to factor in the return for Zherdev.

I dont think its right to complain about this roster till training camp comes along. Its obvious Sather is not done.

I think if Sather doesn't make a trade and re-signs Z then Korpikoski isn't going to be retained. Think about it: Kotalik will probably be a 3rd liner along with avery and anismov and unless they play korps on the 4th line there's no room for him. As a matter of fact, if Z is traded for another forward, I don't see where korpo would fit besides the 4th.

Why does it always seem to take so long for the Rangers to release contract info?

what's wrong with 1 mill per year...

remember...the goal is to have balanced scoring....maybe someone gets pushed to the forth line and they get more than 5 goals out of the 4th line.

Sather does realize that this is Ales Kotalik and not Ales Hemsky right?

just b/c they have the same first name doesn't mean that they are as good as each other.

Interesting, b/c that is not what the other TSN article says. If the above is true: ugh.

Ill take it. It is cheaper than Z's QO and then whatever he actually wanted I am sure. That is a decent deal.

He has averaged 24 goals per 82 games played over his career, and has never had a season where he averaged less than 20. He is a the definition of a "20 goal scorer". Since the lockout he has been up pretty much identical numbers to Antropov.

That said, I agree another 2nd/3rd line tweener is not what we need.

I really don't know, I'm on the fence. 3 mill/year is a little steep.

One says 3 million for 3 years and the other says 3 years @ 3 million per. I hope the first is right, but I doubt it. Just like Gaborik was 5.75M
