Basically, he says the decision to go to arbitration was really tough, because he doesn't want to stir up something he'll regret. But he says while money was a factor in his decision, a show of respect for his contributions is more important to him. He knows the arbitration decision might go against him, but he says he's willing to accept whatever the decision is and he's ready for anything, including a trade.
He says he got several offers from KHL teams, but none compared to the money he'll make in the NHL, and in any case, he's got no interest in going to Russia. He says the lifestyle and competition in the NHL are much better. Although he says he may try Russia when he's too old to play in the NHL anymore. For now, he likes Montreal.
He really feels badly about how last season went, although he says it shouldn't be surprising when you consider the number of injuries everyone had. And he says he was proud he still managed to get 20 goals in a pretty rotten year for him. He promises he's going to be a hundred percent better on the ice this year.
That's about it.
Thanks,
I don't know if I have ever witnessed a played get so down on himself (publicly).
he should not be thrown under the bus for one lousy season, this is a sport so all players are going to go through ups and downs in their careers. I want him back and he can't do worse than last year.
I'll say it before the bashing starts: I like Plekanec and I think he's important for the team going forward.
I thought he was our best player when Koivu went out in the Carolina series, he was young then and he is still quite young. I still think he can play at a high level in all 3 zones.

I agree.
I think filing for arbitration in the face of KHL offers can actually be interpreted as a good sign -- after all, if you're not going to sign with the NHL club, why bother with the hearing? He's not under contract, he'd be free to jump ship.
I hope, and expect, to see this resolved before arbitration.

Translation : If they offered me enough money I would have left faster than Price drops to his knees.

I don't think I've ever seen a thread where a guy was quoted as much. Let alone that many times in a row. So I decided to quote him again to improve that number some more
EDIT: oh well. the streak is over with.. still a damn good one!

Yes, people forget he had a 70 points season.
He had a bad season in (08-09), it's impossible to have a worst season than that.
He will come back strong and if we trade him it's a huge mistake.
He's giving 100% effort at every games and practices.

ahah he made a good use of his 8000th post, didn't he

Agreed. He might not be the toughest of the bunch but he's an humble, team first guy, we have to give it to him. I've always liked Pleks, I know he'll play like he can and produce a good 50-60pts, perhaps more. He's a Jacques Martin player too, and plays on both sides of the rink. He's a good 2nd line center and perhaps even 1st line center on a good year.
If he starts plays like he did 2 years ago, and really I don't see why he couldn't, then we'll have no depth trouble at center for a few years.

But why bother with facts when you can just invent stuff, right...
How does this work? You publicly admit to having a **** season and in the same breath, say that a show of respect for his contributions is more important to him... which is why he's going to arbitration in an attempt o get more money.
I sucked... hard... but I should more money because...ehhhh... I won't suck next year! I promise! Ok, check please... kthanx.

First of all, most players sucked last season. Second of all, you have no idea what kind of offer Gainey made to Plek. Third, Plek had a very VERY affordable cap friendly contract for the past 3 years where he had a 70 point season and was a serviceable player. We have absolutely no idea what kind of money he wishes for, but if Higgins can get 2,25 M, he sure can get about the same (and it's more than the 10% raise qualification offer). Until he actually signs to X millions, blaming him for filing arbitration is ridiculous.

Like you wouldn't do the same if this situation applied to your job? Who doesn't want to make more money???
