Trying to steal Sakic's spotlight, is he?

Best 3rd round pick our organization has ever spent. Thank you, Jacques Martin.

I always wondered what happened to Kilger after his trade to Florida. He literally seemed to just disappear. This is kind of sad. Former top 5 first round pick (drafted spots before Iginla, Doan, Giguere, Langkow) only 32, still had a bunch of productive NHL seasons left in him. My guess is he was simply unhappy with the type of player he had developed into and after years of trying to develop consistency and further improve as a player, he just..Gave up.

this guy is pulling a jason allison/ jim carrey

he put up decent numbers (for a 3rd 4th line guy) in the years after the lockout then suddenly disappears. very strange.

didn't realize he was still playing. Shouldn't this have been announced last year?

That's not it. He had some personal issues that I won't go into on this board as I'm not sure of the board policies on players' personal lives.

He had personal reasons. He was off for "personal reasons" both when he was with the Leafs and Panthers, before getting suspended by the Panthers.

It's too bad. Chad Kilger was a good 3rd liner. He had a very underrated shot. I remember when the Leafs picked him off waivers from Montreal. Then he had 17 goals the next NHL season and then 14 goals the season after that. Not a bad skater either.

But, oh well. Not entirely sure what Martin was thinking, but glad the Leafs got a free 3rd rounder.

If true, sad to know. He wasn't terrible in his short stint with the Hawks.

I remember reading that article last week, odd how the retirement annoucement is a week after instead of a week before. The article had some shtick that he was going to be the best hockey player on the firefighter's hockey team ...

What was the exact story with Kilger and why he didn't play for Florida?

Another ex-Jet bites the dust...

Down to Selanne, Khabibulin, Tkachuk, Draper, Numminen (maybe) and Doan, who will almost certainly be the last.

And with Sakic retiring, the Nords are now down to 2 (I think) (Nolan and Foote)

EDIT : Maybe Sundin too

Thank you, that's all that needs to be said.

Story - personal.

Under the forum rules, we won't be expanding on this issue...

The article says Kilger quit hockey in March 2007. It was actually in March 2008.

He was traded to Florida on February 26, 2008, and was suspended on March 5, 2008 after playing 53 games for the Leafs in the 2007-08 season.

So players would rather run into a building that's on fire, than play for Florida. Nice organization the Panthers have.

LOL. You're so off. As has been repeatedly stated, he retired to tend to personal issues that some of us know about and some clearly don't, but they can't be expanded on here due to the rules of this board. Let's just say he had a personal matter in his life he had to attend to. Had nothing to do with not wanting to play for Florida.

And as far as retirement goes, he unofficially retired long ago. It's just I guess some people didn't know what he was doing.

Was he still playing when he was traded? If he was still taking a shift with the Leafs before he was traded, then didn't want to report, then yeah he didn't want to play in Florida because he had a future outside of hockey there as we all see with that Fireman thing. Kind of lame how others were passed over but whatever, I can't believe this guy was drafted 4th overall, what a joke.

His being traded to Florida interfered with his tending to his personal issues too much, that's why he didn't report. It wasn't because he'd rather fight fires than play for the Panthers. He just couldn't relocate that far a distance. He'd already missed some time with the same issues earlier in the season with the Leafs. So it wasn't like it just came out of nowhere.
