Steve Zipay suggests we should acquire Sharp

I usually don't post trade suggestions or propose them since they're often silly and unrealistic, but Zipay is a really good writer and this trade would make a lot of sense... check it out:

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/ho...al_for_pa.html

A radical thought, but what the heck, just blogging without the calculata...I know, shame on me...

Have you seen the Hawks bulging payroll after they threw $3 million (was it hush money?) at like five of their RFAs?

They have Pat Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith ( a Top 15 D) and Andrew Ladd to sign next season. Anybody got an extra $20 mil?

Let's speculate here. The Blueshirts could still use a proven center who can also play wing.

At some point, the Hawks are going to need to deal away some valuable players. I think they're OK for this season so I figure that they would wait until the trade deadline to really start moving some pieces.

Patrick Sharp would be a really nice acquisition and I think the fact that they need to resign Toews, Kane, and Keith after this season means that they might not be able to get market value in trades.

In other words, if it's possible, do it Slats.

I saw this too, and I like the inventiveness of the contract. But I would think that Chicago would want more than Korp, Sangs, and next year's #2 pick for Sharp. My guess is that Chicago would ask for Dubi, and I would be inclined to give them Dubi for Sharp.

Dubi wasn't dealt for Heatley, therefore he won't be dealt for Sharp.

This is funny, just a few minutes ago I was thinking about whether or not the Hawks would be looking to deal Sharp with all of the money they've been dishing out this year and will have to dish out next year. I thought the Rangers should take a look. Then I log in to HF Boards and see this thread.

I would love Sharp, but I'm not so sure the Rangers would make good trade partners with Chicago as both teams have cap issues.

Zipay's proposal of Korpikoski, Sangs, and a draft pick may not be enough to get Sharp. This is a tad unrealistic, and we end taking back more salary in the process.

If you could get Sharp for that package you do it and worry about the cap afterward. That being said, I think Chicago laughs at that offer, so the point's moot.

That leaves us with 1 NHL proven center (a second liner at that), a Rookie center and......Brian Boyle.

We're not in the position to trade Dubinsky even if we wanted to.

Sorry, my bad, for some reason I had it in my head that Sharp's a center.

Girardi for Versteeg is much more plausible than Zip's offer.

He plays both, but he's a much better winger.

It's a nice suggestion, but I don't see how it's feasible. Unless Chicago is interested in swapping Sharp for Zherdev on his 1 year arbitration contract-- thus allowing some cap flexibility next season when Z hits the open market.

Sharp - Dubi - Gaborik
Higgins - Drury - Callahan
Avery - Anisimov - Korps
Byers - Boyle - Brashear

Not the worst group of forwards I've ever seen.

If the Kotalik deal leads to some sort of trade that brings back Sharp in a cap-friendly manner, I might, MIGHT, get behind dealing Zherdev.

Waiting for a very heavy shoe to drop, Slats.

I actually think Sharp tends to be overrated around here. For a 60 point forward, he gets a lot of attention.

60 points is nice when almost 40 of them are goals.

Don't forget about Kotalik, the newest Ranger.

Not to mention that he does a lot of other really good things on the ice.

Sharp would be a tremendous fit on any team.

Agreed, and that stat is even nicer on a team that is starved for goals. Sharp is a sniper.

I completely agree. I love Sharp. But some posts around here make it sound like he is a 100 point scorer. He is not untouchable, and could be moved for the right offer.

I"m sure Zipay just wants to hear ZZ Top being played at the Garden every time he scores a goal

they dont want dubi, it wont save much money, a dubi for sharp trade. about 1.5 or 1.8 mil. i'm guessing.
NYR sharp, seabrook 7.4
CHI girardi, korpikoski and a 1st round pick, 3 mil. savings of over 4 mil
cap wise it sucks for us but we upgrade.
SJS are also in need to shed some cap bad.
i think we could trade girardi and a pick(maybe a 2) for murray and ehrhoff/vlasic
that would give us the d we need all we do is trade z and rosi if we need to, for whatever. reden we find in the trunk of a cady near gerritsen beach.

A deal for Sharp would most likely revolve around Zherdev, Korp +, with the + being a very big variable. Even if that + was a Sanguinetti, I don't see Chicago biting. The step up from Sangs in my opinion would be including a Grachev/Anisimov, which is definitley a no-go from oru perspective.
