well it's obvious the Texas Stars will dominate this division the same way the Dallas Stars would dominate this division of NHL teams if it actually existed.

I'll be very interested to see the Texas Stars roster when it's finalized, there should be some top end talent on the team

I'm not sure we would beat the Blackhawks.

**** the Blackhawks. We'll see how far they get with Huet in net and the salary cap crunch they've put themselves in.

edit: seriously I'm so ****ing tired of hearing about the Blackhawks and the Flames. People think these teams got better? Hossa was outscored by Havlat by 6 points last season. Now is Hossa a better player then Havlat? yeah probably. Could he score 90+ points? I don't think so but I guess in a perfect season... Anyways what we're talking about here is a very marginal increase in production for the blackhawks balanced out by:

-losing Nik Khabibulin in net (significant downgrade)
-replacing Samuel Pahlsson with John Madden (slight downgrade)
-They have to shed over 3 mill off their roster because their GM just had to sign a bunch of marginal 3rd and 4th line players (Madden, Kopecky, Eager, Fraser, Brouwer). To do so they'll probably have to trade Patrick Sharp for below market compensation.

This made my day, I moved to austin recently and wasn't a fan of the 3 hour drive to dallas to get my hockey fix, now its just 15minutes away. The stadium looks great so far so we'll see.

If you are referring to the 2009-10 season, you are incorrect.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/team.php?team=CHI

Yes, they are over the cap by $4,559,374 at this point, but that includes 15 forwards and 8 defenseman.

Jack Skille, forward, is on a two-way contract, and up to this point, he has not been a regular contributor to his team. You should expect to see him and his $1,275,000 cap hit in the minors.

Brent Sopel, defenseman, was a player they have been rumored to be shopping since last year. To avoid having to trade a key player, I believe they'll eat his $2,500,000 salary in the minors to save $2,333,333 against the cap. Hell, they may even get lucky and trade him .... doubt it.

Minus those 2 players, the Hawks are only $951,041 over the cap. The cap cushion will protect Chicago for that amount. Kane and Toews have very large bonuses, and there is only a slight chance they reach all of them. If I had to guess, Kane and Toews will earn $1,725,000 and $1,700,000 next year not the full $3,725,00 and $2,800,00. Essentially, you could predict Chicago will end up $2,148,959 under the cap at the end of the year assuming Skille and Sopel are off the NHL roster and Kane and Toews only achieve A bonuses (not B bonuses).

Furthermore, throwing one of their spare 4th liners you mentioned in the minors will either put them below the cap or just over (giving them 13 forwards) regardless of the bonuses of Kane and Toews.

However, their defense, IMO, could be risky going with 3 untested (or very limited) rookies. They could trade a guy like Sharp or Byfuglien for a veteran with 1 year on his contract.

In 2010, God help them. It could get ugly. Trading Sharp or Byfuglien now would go a long way towards helping them. I do not agree though that Sharp's or any other player's trade value will take a hit. Whoever they move will likely be a talented young player. Teams will bid against one another and drive up the value IMO.

"I know with this heat it doesn't feel like hockey season, but we're ready to get it going," said Gulutzan, who already goes by the nickname "Gully" in the organization. Gully is a native of Hudson Bay in Saskatchewan and has played professionally in the International Hockey League and the West Coast Hockey League. He also played professionally in Finland and Sweden.

He said he plans to have a team that attacks and "goes after people."
"We're not going to be a team that just sits back," Gulutzan said. "We're going to have a team that plays hard every night." Gulutzan said he feels a strong sense of community in the area and that he is ready to bring his four kids into the local school system.

I could be wrong, but isn't their affiliate team the Icehogs out of Rockford?

I was taking his statement by Chicago the city having a really good AHL team. Not the NHL team.

Hey actually the jerseys are quite different guys. I'm in pretty good with the office here in Cedar Park. I'll definitely try to grab a photo of them as a leak for ya There is green for sure! They look pretty cool to me, not really like the Dallas ones. They kind of have a look like the practice jerseys only the armpit has green and if i remember correctly the other jersey has gold under the armpit. I know some of you won't believe me but you'll soon see im right. Like I said I'll be in the office tomorrow so Ill try to grab some pics for you guys.

Landon Wilson signed a 2 year AHL deal with the Texas Stars.

First team captain? Probably.

Landon Wilson's signing made me think about the veteran rule in the AHL. I wasn't sure the details so I looked it up.

Quote:
Each Member club must dress for each regularly scheduled or
playoff game at least twelve (12) players, other than goalkeepers, who
have played in a total of not more than two hundred sixty (260) regular
season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey
League, International Hockey League or any European Elite League,
prior to the start of the season and one (1) player, other than
goalkeepers, who has played in a total of not more than Three-
Hundred and Twenty (320) regular season games in the National Hockey
League, American Hockey League, International Hockey
League or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season.
More than 320 Games
Landon Wilson
Dan Jancevski (625)
Jeff Woywitka (467)
Garrett Stafford (442)
Andrew Hutchinson (412)
Warren Peters (365)

More than 260 Games
Maxime Fortunus (296)

If Dallas placed Hutchinson or Woywitka in the AHL, Texas would have the maximum allowable veterans. I still don't think Dallas will pay an NHL salary to either Huchinson or Woywitka in the AHL. A trade would probably occur to avoid that situation.

Anyway, Texasí veterans look extremely solid. Wilson was a PPG player for Grand Rapids, and Jancevski, Stafford, and Fortunus are top AHL defenders.

Mathieu Beaudoin is a RW, and he'll probably get signed by Texas considering he's attending Dallas' training camp. He was the top rookie scorer in last season's AHL playoffs. How is everyone going to fit in Austin?

LW
Jamie Benn
Luke Gazdic
Michael Neal
Francis Wathier (Or center, right?)

C
Aaron Gagnon
Perttu Lindgren
Warren Peters
Tom Wandell

RW
Mathieu Beaudoin
Sergei Korostin
Raymond Sawada
Colton Sceviour
Tyler Shelast
Landon Wilson

Is that everyone?

There are rumors Mathieu Tousignant signed an ELC with Dallas, but the team has not confirmed. A French-Canadian website recently said he could end up in the ECHL or AHL this season, but they believed he should return to the QMJHL. Iím surprised heís not listed as a Dallas training camp invitee, but I hope they add a few more names like his, Tristan King, and Hubert Labrie before Sunday.
