Did he had great playoffs?
Can he still be a top point producer?
How many points for 2009-2010?
Joni had a really strong playoff year up until the Pittsburgh series, where every Hurricanes defenseman was exposed. I think the problem there was that our group was flat out mentally and physically drained from the prior two series' having gone 7 games.
In terms of point production for Joni, I don't see him scoring more than 45-50 points again. If he hits 40+ points, then half of them are going to have to be powerplay points. If Staal can get back to producing around 35 to 40 points on the powerplay like he did in 05-06 and 07-08 then Joni should benefit from that bump too.
One thing is for certain, and it's that Joni isn't a shooter anymore regardless of the statistical high in shots last year. He makes his bones by making smart decisions with the puck in the offensive zone and hitting the open shooter. He's very good at both.
They don't but they should... Gleason - Corvo is terrible. They give up the worst most untimely goals I've ever seen. It seems like they have horrible communication on the ice. Corvo can't move bodies away from the net or behind it and TImmy tries to do too much because of it. He'll get out of position or overworked and then bingo, you have 1 or 2 guys left in front of Ward with the puck for an easy goal. And When Corvo does try to do something offensively, Tim can't keep up. Corvo's breakout skills are pretty much neutralized, plus he has a habit of getting frustrated and standing behind the net and then whipping it down the ice. Corvo said that he likes playing with defensemen with some offensive/breakout skills. He and Kaberle actually seemed to work well when they were together. They were just downy soft and couldn't clear the zone. If we did get Seidenberg back I think they would be a decent fit as Seids is physical 'enough' to be a presence down low but he's mobile enough to create and offensive attack. Seids needs to bring consistency to his game though. If he could do that, I'd be ok with that as the top 4. But you're right CC, Pits and Gleason pretty much never play together... Except here (which was awesome)

C'mon JR, give another chance to Babs. He will score at least 20 goals for us if play 80 regular games. Just another chance and he will proves he can play on top 4. Babchuk > Harrison + Wallin + Kaberle + Rodney.
I think they'll revisit the Pitkanen and Gleason pairing again this year. When Pitkanen was acquired it was talked that he and Gleason would make up the first pairing. They started out that way and then due to injuries, pairings got shuffled.
Start of a new season, I'd like to see these guys back together.
