Lemieux's stats there are misleading, because his birthdate made him ineligible for draft until he was nearly 19 years old. Kovalchuk is shaping up to be quite an impressive goal scorer.

If he wouldn't have gotten hurt his rookie season, he might have been able to get into the #4 slot ahead of Sly Turgeon. Would have had to be a good stretch, but possible definitely...

I am more impressed with his playmaking abilities than anything else. Kovalchuk was advertised as a pure scorer coming into the NHL, but he is a lot more than that.

It will be interesting to see if Rick Nash can push his way up near the top of the list. Of course, the CBA will be his stumbling block.
