I think you're selling Hedman (as a prospect) short here. The bolded was the exact same thing said about Hedman when he was draft eligible. He had tons of hype around him during the 2008-2009 season, with some having him over one of the best CHL players in recent memory.
.
Exactly what I was thinking reading that post, not only that but for Jones to be garnering the above Chara comparisons shouldn't he have more of a mean streak? I haven't seen him much, but none of the write-ups/scouting reports on Jones mention him playing that style at all. Actually, most of them sound exactly like Hedman scouting reports from a few years back. I'm glad he chose the dub, looking forward to seeing him live in November.
He played in 2 of the 3 games and picked up 2 assists.
He set up Keoni Texeira's goals. I've read that Texeira was lights out in the games that he played. Looks like they've found Morrow/Pouliot's replacement, a shame that he can't play in Portland this season.

The Chara/Pronger comparisons are silly.
He doesnt have anywhere near there nastiness while hes MUCH more fluid and raw skilled then the other two. I've said many times but his ceiling is a better version of Pietrangelo. The two players skillset and demeanor look so similar to me.
Such an amazing talent combined with that huge frame. He's probably the best case for an exception at the rule about not picking a d-man with the 1st overall pick.
I dont know why people just assume the CHL players wont go. I am sure USA Hockey contacted the CHL league to make sure they will release the players before announcing the roster
He is going to be on The Pipeline Show tomorrow, anxiously waiting for the interview. Great to know he is off to a great start. Can't wait to see him at the World Juniors.

How far ahead is he of the nearest competition at the draft, in terms of defensemen(I assume Ristolainen is next best?0
I haven't seen enough of Ristolainen to make a comparison, but from the games I've watched Jones play, I would take Jones over any defensemen from the last three draft years. I don't think prospects like this come along that often.

I was not particularily impressed tonight. I see all the tools, hes a very good skater right now for his size, but is so damn raw skill wise. He played first pairing and secod pp behind Pouliot. He tried to quarterback the pp four or five times, didnt pass, and got forced to dump it in.
His slapshot wasnt very hard either.
To be honest, I didnt see the hype I expected to, but he is new to he WHL, and wouldnt be surprised if he improves skill wise very quickly.
There was a line brawl, two other fights, and some chippy play, and Jones was nowhere to be seen during any of it. It could be small sample size, but it doesnt look like he has a mean streak, and I think I only saw one hit.
He actually reminded me of watching Jared Cowen in juniors. I think he is actually pretty similar to what people thought Cowen would be, before the knee injury. Though Jones looks more offensive, and Cowen more physical.
