Leafs new strength and conditioning coach: Anthony Belza

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1211564/

Quote refering to Stalberg, Hanson and Bozak:
Quote:
The average day for the three includes an early morning workout with new Leafs strength and conditioning coach Anthony Belza, and they undergo constant counselling on the proper nutrition.

Has anybody heard of him before?

Using quick Google research, it appeared that he was the Strength and Conditioning coach of the Marlies....

Does anybody have any additional information?

Is he American and is he an expert in Human Growth Hormone's. I though Matt Nichol was a dedicated and hard working guy, but when Wilson said the Leafs didn't measure up in their fitness tests compared to other NHL teams the Flag went up. I doubt it was his fault rather the Character of the Players that Wilson inherited. As Burke said the players here have been entitled and didn't have to earn any thing other than being Friends with Mats.

Our model, Anthony Belza, is the current head strength & conditioning coach for the Toronto Marlies (the farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs). By the way, Anthony is not just all "show" as he may appear to be in the DVD. He is quite strong, routinely flipping 800-pound tires and performing bent-knee deadlifts with well over 500 pounds. Last time I measured Anthony, he was 198 pounds with 9.97% body fat so those numbers are quite impressive. He is what we call a classic fast-twitch dominant individual, and if you’ve ever seen Anthony train, he is very diligent with his warm up!

I used to work with Anthony at a personal training company. Only spoke to him a few times, but he always gave off the vibe of being a bit dimwitted and arrogant. His training partner was my old trainer, Craig Ballantyne (a contributor for Men's Health), so I'm going to assume that he was pretty good. I never met any of his clients, but if he was working for this company as a trainer, he had to be pretty good.

When did he say that? Shouldn't be too hard to find a quote.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Two years ago, 2 former NHL tough guys (Rychel, Boughner) bought one of the most disfunctional CHL franchises in Windsor. We heard the same goon remarks from people like yourself about how a team should be run. Two years later their the best team in Canada and cranking out kids to the NHL left right and centre. The same can be said for the Hunter brothers in London as well.

I have no problem with former bruisers running the show as long as they're capable of doing so.

Guys, he's a personal trainer. It doesn't matter if he's a former goon or not. He worked for Totum Life Science, which was (they've since had several partners break off) arguably the top personal training company in the country. You don't get in unless you're the cream of the crop. It's the same company the Leafs' brass uses, so I guess he's still there. Tim Irvine is the president of the company, so I doubt going to risk screwing up the current relationship he has going with MLSE by giving such an important client a bad trainer. If Anthony is their strength and conditioning coach, they're in very good hands.

Bay street bullies, when our corse is a goon squad any player who enters this franchise will turn into a goon.

White and Blue, vs Black and Blue every night baby.

Yes. Pretty soon we'll hire some mafia men to be the attendants at the ACC. If you get out of line they'll beat you with a lead pipe outside the arena.
