Colorado - Washington

To Colorado: (-0.95)

Nylander (4.875)
Fleischmann (0.725)

To Washington:

Hannan (4.50)
Svatos (2.050)
'10 5th Round Pick (from LA)

---

Trade is simple: Washington improves their team by adding a #2 defenseman and a 2nd/3rd line scorer, while the rebuilding Avalanche shed a little salary and pick up a good young player in the process.

Prediction: neither teams fans like this trade. "Look at how long Hannan is signed for!" and "We don't want Nylander, you idiot!"

Damn straight! Except the "idiot" part, thats just not nice.

I don't think the Avs need him. Stastny is already our no. 1 center and either Wolski, TJ, or Duchene can be our no. 2 center and as a rebuilding team it'd be smarter to let the younger guys take role than Nylander.

Hmmm, I'm going to assume that the Capitals will look to keep their core players in tact. When is Semin and Backstrom due for a raise? When is Theodore and Nylander coming off the books? I'm too lazy to look it up. Nonetheless, on paper this trade looks fair but in terms of dollars and cap I'm not too sure about it.

I think the Avs get ripped...badly.

Hannan >> Nylander (in fact, anything > Nylander)
Svatos >> Flash
5th rounder > nothing

If this is a pure salary dump move (like the Smyth deal looks like), then maybe, but otherwise, I can't see the Avs touching this with a ten foot pole.

Washington is not taking on salary in any deal. Either equal(Within a couple 100k), or shedding salary.

Adding a dman while not taking one back doesn't work either. Replace Fleischmann with Schultz(or Morrisonn), and take out the 5th, and Svatos and I'd do it as a caps fan. Doubt avs fans want Nylander though.

After this season, Semin and Backstrom will both need new contracts. Theodore is gone after this year, Nylander is gone after two, but his NMC expires after this year and at that point can be waived.

Nylander was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Names like Jay Beagle, Eric Fehr and Donald Brashear played over him.

Bruce Boudreau, as per Caps fans on HF, absolutely hates the guy.

He isn't that skilled anymore.

I'd say they're pretty even, however; Flash @ 725k >> Svatos @ 2mil.

I understand he's overpaid, but it's not wise to offer a trade on here unless your team gets hurt a little.

I think the Avs would rather trade those 2 for picks and prospects.

I doubt a team is going to trade picks for that much in salary.

In seperate deals, it would happen.

No GM in the world is trading picks for 4.5 million of Hannan's salary.

Can we just do Nylander + Fehr/Schultz + 1st for Liles?

He's still very skilled if you put him in the right system. Yeah, he's completely out of element with Boudreau, but Boudreau has a very narrow system under which you can excel. Pretty much any east-west player would be reduced to rubble under Boudreau even if they're all stars on other teams. Under Hanlon Nylander was PPG last year. I'd wager that if someone like Bylsma coached him and took his strengths into account Nylander could be counted on for 60-70 points still.

Don't want Nylander. Defeats the purpose of trading Hannan if we're getting back just as much salary. Svatos can be dealt in a seperate trade for just a pick if need be.

Definitely one of the worst proposals I've seen on here. Good job.

it has nothing to do with his skillset, it's all about the system.

he fit in perfectly with Glen Hanlon in his first season after being signed and went out and put up 37 pts in 40 games (playing about 15 games with a badly hurt shoulder). after he finally had surgery and came back, BB was the new coach and Nyles has been lost ever since.

he can still play, he just needs the right situation.
