I believe Heatley is the better player. Combine that with Marleau only having 1 year left on his contract and I would rather trade something of value for Heatley, taking the chance that he will play on my team for more than a year (while doubting not that Marleau would certainly be gone).
I dont think so. When you look at guys like Heatley and Marleau, you are looking for offense not two way play and other little things...that's for role players.
Offensively Marleau is a class below Heatley....Only issue with Heatley is he is an idiot off the ice.
If I'm trading for a player you better believe I'm looking at their total skill set when evaluating their worth. Last time I checked defensive awareness is hardly a "little thing". I'm not going to ignore a players strength/weakness in other areas simply because his perceived greatest strength is on offense.
I agree Heatley is a step ahead of Marleau offensively, but to me (obviously its my opinion and by the looks of the poll I'm in the minority), I take Marleau for his speed, backchecking, PK, face-off ability in addition to his offensive ability...all of which when put together...for me....put him at least even with Heatley at which point it simply becomes what your preference is in the type of player you are looking for.
