Yep. Bolland getting that absurd deal gave Callahan's agents, as well as Dubinsky's more than likely, a huge bargaining chip.

Which is too bad - I think he'd be an IDEAL player for Torts' system. A bigger player with similar game to Callahan plus more offensive upside. And yet he's on a one year deal worth less than this one annually.

Having said that, I am willing to credit Sather that perhaps Higgins's camp was dead set to hit UFA and the one-year deal was much easier to do. Still, I'd much rather have seen some of Kotalik's money go to Higgins (if it wasn't going to be used to re-sign Zherdev) and lock him up for $3MM (or less) per year for 3 years.

Way too soon to say. If he flourishes in Torts system, there is no way Sather would let him go.

This is why the Kotalik signing remains asinine. Even if the Rangers are dealing Zherdev, there's still no legitimate reason to give Kotalik $3 million per.

Hopefully Dubinsky gets locked up for longer but after this he will likely get more than 2.3. Hmmmm

I hope you're right - 'cause I think he will. But where will the cap space come from?

Oh please, oh please, hockey gods grant the one buyout exception in summer 2010 so that we can lose Redden's albatross.

Didn't Prucha score 22 Goals the year before he hit RFA? That's not massive.

It takes two parties to sign a contract. Coming off a terrible year, one year away from UFA... what's the motivation for Higgins to give away a year of unrestricted free agency?

I said it the day of the signing, and the two moves today only re-affirm my belief. WTF is this front office doing?

Very nice contract. At that price, I would have tried to extend it for more years.

That means Dubi will probably get 1.9-2.1 IMO.

His agent, Steve Bartlett was pleased.

"It's a big jump, but he deserves it and the Rangers were very good to deal with," said Bartlett. "If he develops the way we think he can, he'll have an even better deal when this one's over."

By my calculations on capgeek. 11 forwards including Lisin at his QO but minus Dubi for now and 7 dmen including Sangs and Heikkinen and the 2 goalies, we have about 3.56 mil in cap space. Correct me if wrong please.

I was referring to the Phoenix contract he got.

You have to factor in what the cap was then and what it is now, as well as what has been going on around the league with other Restricteds.

Depends what you value more. An overachieving 3rd liner that got 40 points which is likely around his ceiling or an underachieving 2nd liner who got 40 points and will likely get better.

I'm glad he's in, but price seems a tad high. Someone with a fat contract is either gone to HFD or traded.

Ok right i had the same. Here are my 11: Gaborik, Drury, Kotalik, Avery, Callahan at 2.3, Higgins, Brashear, Lisin at his QO of like 900k, Anisimov, Byers at what they have it which is 600k, and Boyle at 525k.

Add my 7 dmen and goalies. and its 3.56 in cap space.
