So close...

Does anyone else find themselves a little bit more excited for this season starting then the past few?

Yes! Though I hope my optimism is not misplaced..

Looking forward to seeing how Curran does and hopefully getting a better idea of how the lines look, should be pretty open.

Yupp, the only thing that we know at this point is that Stamkos will be on the 1st line, that Hedman is the 1d and that we’ll have Bishop in net (though I don’t know if he’s 100% and how much he will play during the preseason games, might be good, if he still need some time to just play him in 1 or 2 games to warm-up, give Nabby maybe 2 games and who knows, maybe even give KG and Vasy a game each just to gain some expereince beyond that it's pretty open (I mean sure, we know that Callahan and Flippula will be in the top-6 becuase of the way they play but also with their contracts and that Palat will more than likely be there as well).

Actually about the same but expectations with some luck are higher. No one really thought we would be soo good last year or most didnt. I did I expected us to make a move upwards.

Now with all the pieces we have added into place and with all the good kids drouin on down the line connolly panik kucherov etc.. than those behind them and adding garrison callahan boyle and being in depth for every position?

Ya is exciting yet will hold back from thinking we are locks things have to work out we need some luck and people to keep getting better and stepping up.

Do I think we can hang with anyone in the league especially the EAST? Yes but again need luck and discipline and people to keep getting better maturing etc..

So I do not expect us to win a cup I wouldnt be like wow howd that happen but I expect us to continue to get closer to winning the CUP!!

We have to get to at least the 2nd round of the playoffs this season, to be raising the bar, imo. anything further is a plus. If everything on paper is applied to the ice, we could be running away with the East, but that is a big "if".

I expect the team to take a step forward in that they make the playoffs and make a little noise. They are still a young team and have some growing pains to go through. Hopefully the young guys who were on the team last year pick up where they left off and take another step forward too. Bishop being the most important of them. If he can return to playing how he did last year I see good things for the team.

Obviously it would be great to see Johnson and Palat take their steps forward as well and I think they will at least play at the level they did last year. They are hard working players and have high expectations for themselves. Another question will be how the newer players will come in and work. I'm mostly talking about Connolly and Drouin. They have the least amount of experience and will be interesting to see how they do.

The veterans that we added to the team should be interesting as well. Garrison and Stralmen should be improvements over what we had last year. Boyle should add something to the table. Morrow adds some leadership. Stamkos being back maybe the biggest difference. Especially if everything else takes a step forward or at least stays the same. I can't wait for the season to start. I'm going to try to go to as many as possible.

Will be very interesting to see how the guys trying to make the team will play, especially Connolly and Drouin. Would love to see both on the opening night roster.

Speaking of the opening night, it's still too damn far away! Maybe I can freeze myself like Cartman?

Has any schedule for training camp been posted anywhere?

I usually like to try and head up for one (assuming they are open to the public) and see it outside of fanfest. Fanfest is great but alot more crowded than the week leading up to it.

Anyinfo is appreciated.

If only training camp was public, I'd be there all week.

EDIT:

@ImaPuckhead: It's completely private this year excluding fan fest.

Thanks for the update. That is rather disappointing, news however. It was something I really enjoyed previous years.

Here's the camp schedule

http://lightning.nhl.com/club/news.h...medium=twitter

Quote:
The schedule includes Lightning Fan Fest, to be held on September 27. Fan Fest will be one of three scrimmages Tampa Bay will have during training camp, with the others being Sunday, September 21 at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum and Monday, September 22 at Amalie Arena.

Once again the Lightning will hold practices and morning skates at Germain Arena in Estero from Tuesday, September 30 through Thursday, October 2. Practice on Wednesday, October 1 will be open to the public.
They streamed scrimmages last year. Hopefully they do it again.

According to the lightning twitter account it is at Brandon, just not at Amalie Arena.

@Boldisaur Practices at Brandon. None at Amalie Arena as of now.
My guess is there's some work being done to prepare for fan fest & the season including changing the Tampa Bay Times Forum marquee over the front entrance to Amalie Arena.

Not that I've seen, but I'd love to see Drouin and Stamkos together in the Blue vs. White scrimmage, just to get a safe look at how they mesh.

The more I watch/read/hear about Drouin, the more I think he might be a kid who's going to need time with steady linemates in order to build chemistry. He's very unpredictable with the puck, which I think can confuse his linemates as much as the opposition, if they're not used to playing with him. Just from reading the tweets and write-ups about the prospect tournament, he seemed to create a ton of offense that wound up in missed opportunities.

As fun as it is to fantasize about Drouin hitting his potential playing alongside Stamkos for the next decade or so...

...I'm honestly more excited to see Drouin and Kucherov play together again in camp this year. I think Kucherov thinks the game similarly but plays it differently enough to be a good complement. I know Kucherov's hot streak in Syracuse with Brown and Namestnikov was the key to him getting called up, but, I can't help but believe that the synergy, chemistry, and overall fancy talent Kucherov and Drouin exhibited together in camp when Lightning management was with them every day was also important.

I'm not sure who their third linemate should be. I'm not sure I care, nor that it matters. The two of them can tap into enough of that magical, mystical, jedi **** and make all sorts of professional men in the NHL look dysfunctional.

Can't wait!

I wouldn’t mind seeing them play togther.

Maybe they could start a line-up like this:

Palat – Stamkos –Callahan
Killorn – Filppula – Connolly
Drouin – Johnson – Kucherov
Morrow/Brown – Boyle – Panik

(or something like that)

And then after a while maybe try something like:

Drouin – Stamkos – Kucherov
Palat – Filppula – Callahan
Killorn – Johnson –Connolly
Morrow/Brown – Boyle – Panik

(Ok, maybe not)

Outside of the box:

Drouin - Filppula - Stamkos
Palat - Johnson - Callahan (I like that one a lot)
Kucherov - Killorn - Connolly
Morrow/Panik - Boyle - Brown

Top two lines would be deadly. Third line is admittedly risky at best and a mess at worst. I hate the idea of Killer at C, but I'd be willing to test it for a game or two because I think those top two lines would be worth trying. Or we could bring up Namestnikov or Paquette for either Kucherov or Sustr.

Those two top lines could be deadly and I wouldn’t mind if they tried those out. The third line is a bit of an uncertanty but maybe if they got to play togther even that could work out and we’d have a good 4th line.

Line combos is really one of the things that I’m mostly curies about coming out of TC.
