Cool. I'd like to see him earn the 7th dman spot...assuming we can afford to carry a 7th dman.

The deadline for accepting QO's(or they expire)is tomorrow afternoon. Potter's QO was a two way.

That leaves Dubinsky, Lisin and of course Zherdev.

Potter had no leverage. What are his options? Holdout? KHL?

Potter can become a group 6 UFA next summer if he doesn't play 75 NHL games this season.

I think Corey is just going to be AHL feeder. I seriously doubt he sticks up with the big boys, and he is being rapidly pushed down our depth charts.

Sauer, Sangs, Del Zotto, Gilroy, Heikenen are more likely to play on the Rangers this year. (not saying they will but they are probably all above him on the depth charts and all have higher ceilings).

maybe he sticks as a 7 but that would probably be it.

Well, good for Potter. I'm not high on him after last season but it doesn't hurt having him around.

The wolfpack are happy. He'll never make the Rangers though.

After last years camp I hope he comes in and shows everyone he deserves a spot in the lineup this year. He was, IMO, the best d-man in camp last preseason after Staal.

Good guy with a good attitude and belongs in Hartford. I could see him starting the season in NY while Gilroy adjust to the pro game in Hartford, though not lasting long before they switch places...Sauer should definitely get a chance before Potter does again.

If Corey doesn't stick with the Rangers, he could be the next player headed to Phoenix. The Yotes' could use a young right handed defenseman

Hasn't he been mentioned by Sather as one of the 5 guys (now it looks like 6 with Heikkinen) competing for the bottom two spots? I see his chances as being as good as anyone else.

i think potter might start the year in the NHL because out of the guys that are competing he was the one guy whose had a bunch of NHL games, and he looked comfortable playing in the NHL, if he really wants to make the NHL he has to take this summer seriously and come into camp in tip top shape. i think potter might get the 6th spot and then depending on how gilroy sanguinetti heikkinen and sauer play he could become the 7th guy.

I don't know. I think his chances are fairly decent. He was one of the last players cut from training camp--the Rangers made the cut while they were in Europe. He also played a couple games for Renney and 3 for Tortorella and looked fairly comfortable in the last 3. He's got decent size--skating and puck moving. Seems to play his position pretty well and best of all $588 K is cheap and may give him an edge over some of the others like Sanguinetti, Del Zotto, Heikkinen who would all be making over $800 K--a savings of $200 + K in each case. Considering how tight things may be and that he has at least a little NHL experience--he's right in the middle of the picture.

That's what's wrong with this team. Potter looked he could be a 5 or 6 in his brief recall. They don't have enough trust.
