Not a bad price for what he brings, but why? I think the money could have been better spent on a defenseman, but perhaps this opens up a way to trade Eaves or somebody for a defenseman.

I think this for sure signifies a trade will be made, probably Eaves. He isn't going to get a chance to become an offensive player here and now we've got enough guys to fill bottom six without him.

Our type player, honestly. He work very hard and play with heart. I liked. But this mean, we will trade Walker and Eaves.. one of them or both?

Yep, this screams to me that Eaves or Samsonov is on the way out, almost certainly Eaves there. We just don't have enough roster spots for the forwards we have and Kostopoulos is much better suited as a 4th liner then Patrick.

I wonder what kind of defenseman we can get for Eaves and Babchuk. Tyutin would be nice, as would Sami Salo.

Walker has a NTC and I doubt there's many places he'd accept a trade to. Vancouver or Nashville, possibly. More than likely it's Eaves who's gone or Kaberle will finally be bought out.

I don't understand your love for Salo. Sure, he's a great player but his injury history is enough to make me completely overlook what he can do on the ice and want no part of him on this team. He just CAN'T stay healthy and he's 35 years old.

Was a fan favorite in LA, then Montreal...everywhere he goes. Can't see it being any different with Carolina. I know I'll miss his effort on the Habs, hope it works out.

well as far back as last year jr talked about making a legit 4th line, with size and scrap to it. this guy fits. unfortunately we were already full so as y'all say someones gotta be on the way out.

with babs available, could we be seeing something kinda bigger going on? forward plus babs for a higher end player? interesting.

sorry, dave said the same thing!

Eaves is gone. He's the only one that makes sense.

No one will want Walker at his price, Samsonov only really has value to Carolina, and everyone else is useful here. I'll be absolutely shocked if it's not Eaves.

Eaves+Babchuk for something. It even be something decent that isn't a bad package when you throw maybe a second rounder or so.

love this move.
looks like we got some of that grit we were searching for, and at a great price.
sounds like he will be a welcome addition.
as for the d-men, don't worry.
the plan is coming together.
remember, we made it to the conference finals and our gm knows what he's doing, something that's only reaffirmed with deals like this one.
now, if we can make sure our trainer doesn't have him out doing charity road races before the season starts, we'll be all set.

With his one-way deal for this year, I think it makes Conboy the odd man out at the moment. Neither he or Kostopoulos are true enforcers anyway but Kostopoulos can at least give you more than 3-4 mins TOI.

Walker would have to waive his NTC or retire and I think it would be a mistake to give up on Eaves.

Unless Eaves is going to be given enough ice time as well as some pp time then it's basically a waste to keep him. He's never going to reach his full potential playing on our fourth line.

I'm not really familiar with the hurricanes roster, so I don't know how he fits in the team, but I'm sure you'll like him. He's the kind of guy every team needs. Great attitude. He'll never hesitate to stand for his teammates. And by that, I mean he'll get his ass kicked for the team more than a few times...
I'm really glad he found a new team.

Love this signing. I said about a week and a half ago that JR should sign either/or between Moen or Kostopoulos to play wing on the 4th line, Kostopoulos fits the bill. Call me happy.

Full contract details: "The deal will pay Kostopoulos $700,000 in 2009-10, $950,000 in 2010-11 and $1.1 million in 2011-12."

I agree he is more skilled than a 4th line player and the same can be said of Walker. The problem with trading Eaves though is that he is still young, is a good two-way player but simply doesn't have very good trade value.

The Hurricanes philosophy has long been that like someone upwardly mobile who is skilled enough to move up when there are injuries. Eaves fit that category and his contract is still decent enough to keep him around even if he starts on the 4th line, over someone like Conboy. Kostopoulos makes Conboy redundant, not Eaves.

As long as nobody expects him to have ANY kind of hands (goalscoring or pugilistic ones), he's okay. Will show up for every game for sure.

well... we are going to say good bye to.....

we have to have a trade in the works already. I find it hard to believe JR would sign someone in our overcrowded roster another winger without having a sure bet that he can get rid of someone else.

trade is coming in

4...3...2...1...

with jr, sometimes the easiest explanation is the way to go. who are the two guys we havent gotten signed yet? those are the two most likely to leave. id surprised to see them move ruutu, but if its for a good player who knows. maybe jr doesnt like the range he has to go in to get ruutu done. im sure im wrong and any minute now theyll get ruutu done.
