"Everything I've heard about the organization is that it's a great organization that treats its players very well," the veteran forward said this morning. "I understand it's a beautiful place to live, where everyone is so friendly and the fans are great.

"They seemed interested in me right off the bat and that was a big key for me," he said. "Both parties wanted it done."

Chip blog this morning with some comments from Kostopoulos.
It took an awfully long time to get it done for JR showing interest early and both sides wanting to get it done. Maybe he was waiting for the official Bob Gainey "no".....which probably came when we offered a 3rd year
What are you talking about Tom, Cam Ward isn't even remembered for the average hockey fans top 10 list. Give your head a shake.
Cam was actually voted #7 in the goaltenders poll that is still going on in the Polls forum. His play down the stretch and in the first two rounds of the playoffs really opened up the eyes of many fans.
I dont believe that Kostopolous has any affect on Conboy. Timmy was always going to be the extra guy with the ability to fill in on the back end of up front......you might also see both on the ice at the same time if a situation calls for it. I think this is a definite shot over Eaves bow......he's outty5-0
i dont think this has anythign to do with Ruutu either. Add Tom but losing Tuomo would just be useless. Its arbitration people, the deal will go down to wire.....thats the beauty of filing, it sets a hard date to get a new deal done. Ill worry more when the deal isnt done the night before the hearing.
In summation...i love the deal....ive always loved this guy and hated playing against him. i dont care if he loses every fight as long as he is a nasty b#$% on every shift on every night for 10 minutes. He was signed to kick butt from whistle to whistle not after the gloves drop.
I agree it has nothing at all to do with Ruutu as they are at different ends of the skill spectrum.
I do think though that the combined impact of signing both Goertzen and Kostopoulos spell trouble for Conboy who I think will be moved as the throw-in player. Goertzen is the middleweight physical player who will mix it up like Conboy but someone who is too much of a liability to play many even strength minutes. Goertzen has a two-way deal vs. Conboy's one-way deal, and he is woeful on the blueline.
Kostopoulos can effectively play even strength minutes (he averaged almost 12 min of ESTOI/g and with the forward depth this season, regardless of pending trades, the 4th line will play a larger role and with more skilled players. Veterans like Brind'Amour and Walker might have to see time there and Sutter will certainly make a push this year. Regardless of their declining skills, that kind of fourth line and with that kind of salary is a waste to play 4-5 mins/ game. NJ used that philosophy at times in rolling a 4th line with a skilled guy like Rolston and Chicago had Sharp on its 4th line late in the year. It's a tough match-up when you 4th line can actually play.
Rodney also hasn't made the team, so the number isn't exactly taken. Kostop is the veteran so Rodney would likely defer to him if he wants #29.
Come on. We're talking about an egoless role player coming to a new team. He isn't going to request a number that is already assigned on the expanded roster and one that hasn't exactly been constant in his career.
If a guy like Rodney offered up the number, it's one thing but Kostopoulos isn't going to ask for it.

Who knows if Rodney even really wants that number. All I'm saying is he's only worn it for a few games so I wouldn't be surprised to see Kostop get it. Not saying he's going to come in and demand it.
This is a bit late and has probably already been said, but as a Habs fan I can tell you Kostopoulos is a hell of a player. He became a fan favourite in Montreal and that's hard to do for an English player.
He doesn't have the best hands(either for scoring or fighting), but he'll stand up for his team both on and off the ice, even if it means being arrested.
Now in exchange, if you could start wearing Hartford Whalers jerseys again, so we can finally start beating you again, that would be great.

It's funny isn't it? In the green, blue & white, we never beat you guys in the playoffs. In Carolina red, black, & white, we've never lost to you guys in the playoffs!
wow. id be impressed with anyone having that jersey. ive got a friend back home in CT who has an authentic francis jersey from the mid 80's, just sitting in the closet collecting dust. i want to kill him.
the canadians never beat the whale.....roy did.
though sanderson had him for lunch for those last few years, never saw one guy beat him as easily as sandy - and ive been here in CO watching the avs for 12 years.
