Negociations between Gainey and Latendresse turning well.

Nothing shocking and I didn't see a thread about it.

Hopefully it will be a long term cap friendly deal. Not something too long, but like 5 years or so.

'Latendresse negotiates with Gainey'

Negotiations are going well between Guillaume Latendresse and Bob Gainey. The discussions/negotations between the two parties began around three weeks ago.

Next paragraph is quite a bit harder for me to understand. I'll try my best.

The 22 year old forward..?(L'attaquant?) er...realizes (nevertheless?) that the manouvering room for Gainey is tighter with all the recent acquisitions. (free-agent signings).

In any case, he remains confident that they'll come to an understanding.

Quote from Latendresse, something along the lines of:
' It is true that there is less money, but it's not like I'm asking for a salary of 3 million this season. My salary will be easy to absorb. We'll wait and see what happens - the summer has just begun and we haven't been pressing yet (might be slightly off). We should find out more in the next few weeks.'

Please tell me that Gui! is not asking/suggesting he's worth 3M a year...

Edit: nevermind, the next post has the key missing word of "not"....phew...

He says that it's not like he will be making 3 million a year, so he doesn't think Gainey will have trouble fitting him in. He's definitely not asking for that kind of money.

I believe the l'attaquant just means forward, like you said.

Hopefully we can get him signed, we need his size.

Lats is gonna sign and it'll be a fair price. And I think he'll end up being a steal. I'm really not worried about any of the RFAs besides Pleks.

Gainey was smart, I heard he had Mcdonnalds cater the negotiations, this is a pretty good way to keep Latendresse not only distracted but happy.

No worries. Not being a French speaker, I feel fortunate that people are willing to translate...so thanks.

As for Latendresse - I'm actually giddy about the upcoming year. If he stays healthy, I think he'll wind up between 20-25 goals.

Haha nice. I still believe there was a divide in the lockerroom with both Koivu and Kovalev in there. The team will be refreshed!

As for Latendresse...I really liked what he did last year. He is coming along nicely IMO and 20+ goals is a realistic expectation from him this season.

It seems like alot of NHL players have really liked what we have done to our team. Both Cammalleri and Gionta said that the aquisition of Gomez was one of the reasons they came here. Also, Mara and Moen both said that they really liked the direction of the team and that it gave them the best oppertunity to win. An now Pominville and Latendresse both say that they really are impressed with the work that Bob Gainey has done.

"Our fans liked Kovalev but they will quickly forget him with the new talented players we got."

Guillaume Latendresse did not hide his enthusiasm vis-à-vis the new look of the Canadiens, Tuesday, when dropping by Jason Pominville golf tournament, in Blainville.

"A new wind can only be beneficial for the team, he added. Our new players are hardworking and aggressive and will bring new energy to the team.

For my part, I hope to take advantage of the situation, said Latendresse. Positions are still open on the first two lines, and with the addition of smaller players, a player of my size can contribute much more."

Although being an opponent, Pominville also praises the work of reconstruction begun by Bob Gainey. The Buffalo Sabres forward thinks that the Canadiens are one of the most improved teams for the next season.

"Jaroslav Spacek is a considerable addition to defense and the three forwards (Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta and Mike Cammalleri) will bring some offense, speed and freshness. Hal Gill can succeed Mike Komisarek in the physical aspect. Many people have criticized him for being slow, but it is never easy to play against him."

Its all fanboy bias. The Habs are gonna be out of the playoffs. The Habs are too small. The Habs are cap strapped. Gainey is a bad GM. The Gomez trade is the worst in the last ten years (yet people forget about big Joe and other trades).

Gotta believe Gainey and Guy probably don't wanna look at a contract of more than 2 years.

2 years....$2.6M total.

Gives Guy a couple years to prove to management wether he is a good top six forward, or a bad top six, decent 3rd liner.
