I would rather a longer deal, but that's a great number.

Yeah, I'm guessing he signed for 1 year cheap and hoping to get more money if he has a good season.

Hate to ask this, but how far off is he from UFA? 2 or 3 years?

Good deal. Now Lats has to earn his next contract. Hopefully he has a good year.

Maybe Gainey ask him these terms to sign another player for 1 year? Sundin anyone?! (Please God, no!)

i think gainey is really selling this whole new team direction thing well....

why is everyone undersigning for short term simple...

they need to prove this year that under specific roles, system and coach that they can contribute to be a key part of the core in order to gauge their proper value for longer contracts...

he is being smart because most of these assets will still be RFAs next year that are getting these small cap hits and terms (minus mara)

the players know this so that is why they are taking discounts next year...

the face of the team has changed and you truly gotta play your role and earn your pay cheque by working hard and producing it seems which i believe is the message the younger players maybe getting

What a bargain, I like how Tender looks confident so far, he'll have a breakout year I'm sure.

It's a win/win situation. If Latendresse has a good season, he'll get big money.

What was his previous contract? Three years at what amount exactly?

This contract maybe show me some consistentency and hard work and I'll reward you next year. If he doesn't do that then he's not tied up for 2 or 3 years to come. Giving a kid that has been a healthy scratch to often a long term deal means he doesn't necessarily have to work for the length of the deal. One year show me what you can do and we'll talk next year.

Latendresse has the team's success at heart and helps the cap situation with this contract.

If Lats' agent signs a 22-year-old progressing player long-term, he should be fired. With him being a RFA a short-term deal was a no brainer if he expects to improve again this year, and that's a very safe bet.

The money, considering what he's accomplished and what he could do, borders on robbery for the Habs. Of course, that's the market for second-contract RFAs. Lats didn't have a whole lot of leverage.

That is understood. I was hoping he'd take less of a discount on a longer term deal. 2-3 years would be preferred considering our cap situation from here on out.

That is awesome news.
803 000$ is at least 300 less then what he could have gotten.

My guess is that Stewart will get 500 000$ and D'Agostini 600 000$.
Which will leave us with around 4 000 000 to sign Plekanec.

Good job Bob and thank you for taking a discount Guillaume.

The Pleks signing will cost 2.5 mil and the all the other RFA's about 1.5 million so I say that leaves some 1-2 million of cap space. I think Bob cannot sign another impact player unless through trade.

Why the number 803 though? Why not just 800 or 805....whats a weird number. Maybe its Guillaume's personal hot-dog eating record

Why 803 000? I wonder how they got to that number.

Probably once taxes are all deducted it comes out to a more round rational number.

Like Latendresse comes to Gainey and says he wants to make 400K after deductions and then Gainey gets his accountants together and gives Gui a contract that will give him that much profit...

Nice. I thought for sure he was gonna get over $1M.. I guess this means he'll have even more of a reason to have an awesome upcoming season.

So who's left now? Plekanec, Stewart, D'Agostini... Am I missing anyone? After them we'll still have about $3M left.

That's a very good deal signed by Gainey,I was pretty sure it was going to be a little over a million, nice signing and I hope Guy has a great season and pocket a little more cash next year.

I think there is a move left for Gainey, and he might have convinced Guillaume to take a little less for this season

It seems like a discount, but at the same time Lats is moving from a 2-way contract to a 1-way contract, much like Chipchura. Its basically saying that he is a real part of the team now and its time to find out in what ways/roles he can contribute.

Its not uncommon for young players to have a 'drop' in salary with their first one-way contract. I remember a similar deal with Higgins for his first one-way as well.
