Flames claim Nigel Dawes

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=284809

Not a bad pick up. 10 goals and 11 assists in 64 games last season.

Dawes, Lundmark and Sjostrom would make a pretty good 4th line.

Good for Calgary, they need cheap goals. Might work out likie Bourque and Glencross

Nigel Dawes; no longer the best black man on his team.

Funny. Also the Coyotes Rejects line, as all 3 were on the Yotes as well.

The Rangers/Coyotes Reject Line. All three played with both.

No real loss for the Coyotes, they had no room on the NHL roster for him and they weren't going to get anything back in a trade. I would guess the only reason Maloney even gave him a qualifying offer was in hopes of re-signing him to a two-way deal.

Awesome pickup. Wasn't sure unsigned rfa's could be waived.

So will 2 of Prust, Lundmark, Jaffray, and McGrattan need to be waived?

If Wellwood doesn't return I could see the Canucks claiming Jaffray as their 13th forward.

He goes through stretches where you'll piss yourself because you think a potential 30 goal scorer is on your roster for dirt cheap, and then he'll follow them with longer stretches where you will literally forget he is in that night's lineup, because he does absolutely nothing.

Not a bad pickup, however do the Flames really need more 4th liners?

Decent pick up by the Flames. You need patience with this guy, he is very inconsistent. He shows some flashes of brilliance for a couple of games and then it's almost like he disappears for sometime. Solid 3rd/4th liner for sure, he'll chip in a couple of goals for the team.

Good Luck Dawsey.

Dawes...good in the shootout

Gomez nicknamed him "Black Magic" but no one had the balls to make it stick...plus it turned out his best magic trick was disappointing from the score sheet.

With the right linemates....if it clicks, Nigel has a lot of potential.

I don't really see Dawes as a 4th liner. I like Dawes and I think he has #2 line potential. I may be the only Ranger fan that feels that way. Whether or not he realizes his potential is the question. Dawes always played well against the Devils so Sutter probably remembers that.

I like this signing a lot. A good 3rd / 4th liner with some potential to do more. Hopefully he can break out a bit and chip in a few more goals then he had last season.

I see Dawes as a potential 2nd liner as well. He's big and strong and has some touch around the net from what I've seen. Not bad at all for less than $1M.

Now what does Calgary's lineup look like? Hmmmmm....

Edit:

Bourque-Jokinen-Iginla
Boyd/Dawes-Langkow-Moss
Glencross-Conroy-Boyd/Dawes
Nystrom-Primeau-Sjostrum
x-Prust, McGratton

Somethings gotta give.
