Well he's not exactly big at 5'8 however he plays well above his stature. I like the fact that Sutter claimed the guy. I hope he reunites with Sutter and McGill (both linked to coaching him before) and breaks out ala Rene Bourque last year. D Sutter is the **** of the operation.

Not a bad pick up. 10 goals and 11 assists in 64 games last season.

Dawes, Lundmark and Sjostrom would make a pretty good 4th line.
aka the Ranger's garbage line.

Seriously Dawes has some upside. He was expected to possibly be a 2nd line winger. He just kinda went cold last yr. I don't rule him out becoming a 50 point guy although pretty unlikely.

never knew he was on waivers.
good pickup for the Flames who need some scoring depth.

That's exactly what this is... Sutter fishing for this years Bourque/Glencross. Low-risk, medium reward scenario.

If anybody knows how to get the best out of Dawes, it'll be McGill who had him in Kootenay. Couple that with Sutter coaching him at the WJC and this staff should have a good feel for what he can contribute.

I like it as a depth move... and thats all it should be.

i still think he has second line potential, but he'd be useless as a bottom 6 player.

I think teams are gonna be really happy that Tortorella pretty much wanted to get rid of half the roster to make it his own team, there are some good players we've been dumping lately. Sjostrom and Dawes to Calgary, and now Korpikoski to PHX, Prucha is there aswell.

You guys will like Dawes, not a bad player. I really think he'll have to earn a spot in the NHL this year, but if he gets it, he'll be a good 3rd line guy. Wouldn't be a bad 4th liner if someone else beats him out for the 3rd line spot

I agree with Dawes needing to become more consistent.

The one play that sticks out in my mind during his time with the Rangers is how badly he dumbed Pronger to score a goal. There has to be a clip out there somewhere for the Flames fan to get the jist of what we're talking about when we say there's nights he'll have you jump out of your seat. Then it's like he's not in the lineup getting a regular shift for many games, when he actually is.

He's rock solid and has caught MANY bigger players off guard with hits.

i tried the embeded and it didn't work, sorry if im just stupid and did it wrong lol
He's a solid player, I would have liked to see him be a better player without the puck, but I think that will come

He could be anything from a 2nd liner, to a 4th liner
He's got hands, he just needs to bring his game together, like you said, be more consistent

I don't know where Dawes is going to fit on Calgary, if he ever even does. I don't think he has the size, hustle or defensive awareness to be an effective checking line player but he's also failed to show that he can consistently play on a scoring line. Now one could argue that Rangers coaches never had the patience with him to allow him to stick on a scoring line for any substantial amount of time, but it was obvious during his time as a Ranger that he had the alarming tendency to be utterly invisible on some nights. Whether Sutter can get him to be a consistent contributor night in and night out remains to be seen. Maybe his history with Nigel means he thinks he can get through to him. If he does, and I'm assuming Dawes will sign for cheap if he can get a deal done with Calgary, then it has the potential to be very low risk with the chance of a decent reward.

Dawes has a small chance to be a below average NHL second liner. More likely he will be an above average AHL first liner. Either way, I imagine Phoenix qualified him, in hopes of signing him to a two-way contract, which I imagine he rejected, resulting in his being waived. The Coyotes cannot afford to pay NHL salaries to AHL players. Dawes is a good gamble for a team that can afford such a luxury. Knowing the money situation in Phoenix, you won't find a Coyotes fan upset about seeing him gone. I'd have liked to give him a look in camp, but only if we had the option of sending him down. He's worth a gamble, but not if you end up being stuck with him on your NHL roster, unable to send him down, and cut his wage by ten times.

Why the hell didn't Edmonton claim him? He's exactly what the team needs. Plays bigger than he is and some ability. Tambo asleep at the switch while he pursues Heatley? Seems to be the same story every summer from the Oilers.

Better be careful, you might get suspended!!

A low risk, high reward type of pick up from the Flames. Hope it pays, I like it!

Stood right next to him once at a game in Hartford. The dude is 5'8" WITH skates on.

If anyone has the pics from the Rangers Christmas party last year you will see what I mean.

That pretty much describes his entire time with the Coyotes.

Somethings gotta give.
More then likely Primeau is buried in the minors or if possible traded.
