Overpayment for a 3rd liner... But its Clutterbuck! I'd do it!

No idea if that was even close, I'm horrendous at proposals.

To be honest... Its massive overpayment But Clutterbuck is the league leader in hits, and would be the kind of 3rd liner Burke dreams of having.

Stajan a 2nd/3rd line centerman
White, a 2nd pairing defencman

For a 3rd line winger and a 4th rounder

Really, Massive overpayment, but Clutterbuck would be a huge fan favourite in TO.

We may all think its an overpayment...but lets look at it this way.

If everything pans out the way we think it will this will happen:

Bozak will take Stajan's role
We have 10 NHL D'men - White is easily replaced by Stralman

Clutterbuck gives us one of the best (if not the best) 3rd line player in the league.
The kid is crazy; he hits, fights, blocks shots and i guess he has a positive attitude in the dressing room.

I'd make that deal in a second and I think Burke would as well.

Matt Stajan
Alexei Ponikarovsky
Lee Stempniak
Ian Whtie
Mike Van Ryn
=10.055 mil

Patrick Marleau
Jonathon Cheechoo

San Jose deals with their Cap Problem, Toronto gets a 1st line centerman, and a 2nd line winger that needs a change of scenery.

Blake-Marleau-Hagman
Kulemin-Grabovski-Cheechoo
Stalberg-Wallin-Mitchell
Stuart-Mayers-Orr
*Bozak, Tlusty, Hanson

Kaberle-Komisarek
Beauchemin-Schenn
Exelby-Finger/Stralman/Frogren

Toskala
Gustavsson

Hello playoffs!!!

What about Stajan straight up for Clutterbuck?

or

Stajan and Van Ryn for Clutterbuck and a pick?

Not bad, but Umberger doesn't really fill a need (unless we played him on the wing)

I would take Vermette over Umberger.

Tor:
Kaberle
Stajan/Ponikarovsky
White
2011 1st

FLA:
Horton
Weiss

Breakdown:

Kaberle and White for Horton

The Panthers wouldn't move Horton straight up for Kaberle so we throw in White as an incentive. This really cripples the Leafs transition game but I doubt that Burke would leave that unaddressed.

Stajan/Ponikarovsky+2011 1st for Stephen Weiss

This may seem like gross overpayment, but the 2011 draft is weak anyways. Stajan and Ponikarovsky are UFAs next year and Weiss still has 4 years on a 3.1 cap hit (which is a bargain, considering his last season). If Florida decides to pick Stajan over Poni, it is a lateral move at best (same age, similar production) but I think Weiss has the higher upside and will consistently put up 70+ points a season once he fully reaches his stride. This guy is a Richards/Savard hybrid (albeit, probably will never be as good as them, but his game is comparable to theirs). This guy is fast, responsible defensively, gritty and a great 2 way player.

That said, Florida wouldn't give up on their best centre and downgrade to a UFA without overpayment, and thus the 1st.

No Poni in the deal, Florida needs Centers if Weiss is included

But i'd do the deal above.

I think Burke would rather go with the bigger body. LOL Umberger has been known to play the wing.

Okay, that's what I thought, but having a choice between the two is always good

ok how about this proposals.

to CHC kaberle, stajan, sefanovich

to TOR Sharp, Barker

why? TOR gets a top 6 arguably top line foward (def on the leafs) and a young replacement for Kaberle.

CHC frees up around 3 million much needed cap space. they acquire a great cheap D in kaberle (4.2) and get a solid third line centre, plus a prospect.

If they add Brouwer I would consider it....I'd rather not deal Stefanovich though....

something around Toskala for Huet+ would work. The Hawks help clear cap space from their apocolypse next year, and we can handle Huet's contract or just bury him in the minors once he gets to the last year of his contract(3 years left) and we don't know how the monster will pan out anyways, we could get picks(they have 3 2nds next eyar) or snag one of their young roster players.

Crystal ball? How do you know the 2011 draft is weak? It's two years away! Everyone thought this years draft was weak besides Tavares and look how that turned out. Players now can develop into great prospects within two years. Do you know any of the prospects in that draft?
