Most valuable Ranger in entire organization #2

With 28 out of 30 votes going to Lundqvist, it's obvious that I should've started with #2 instead of doing #1.

"Since we're doing most valuable prospects, how about we do most valuable player in the entire organization? I wonder what prospects will be rated over players currently in the NHL?

Age, Potential, Salary, and etc. should all be looked at.

Also include who we should add."

1. Lundqvist

I'm ignoring the criteria. Who is the most valuable player to THIS team means to me who is the most important to THIS team's success.

Thus, I chose Gaborik.

In the Ranger's organization's eyes, it is Staal to me.

That's fine, everyone is going to evaluate differently. I just mentioned a few things that people should at least consider (if they want to).

Wrong. Its who is the most valuable to THIS organization. Which means this season and beyond.

And Gaborik is still more valuable in terms of the Rangers success in the next 5 years than Staal is, in my eyes. It's an opinion, you can't be wrong.

Yeah, from game to game, you'd have to say Gaborik's ability to win a game single-handedly (just like Lundqvist's) would make him more valuable than Staal.

I don't think there is any d-man currently in the league that is his team's most important player, at least none come to mind (Lidstrom/Chara are the closest).

Marc Staal, he will anchor our D hopefully for the next decade, the most important position after goalie.

If we're talking pure value, IMO Staal has more than Gabby right now (especially considering contracts - who would be the centerpiece in any potential trade for another superstar?).

A 22 yr old first pairing, shutdown defenseman in a division featuring Crosby/Malkin/Parise/Richards/Carter/Tavares is worth his weight in gold and then some.

Gaborik might be able to make a case for #2 if he stays healthy and carries the load offensively this year. But until that happens, it's Staal and it's no contest.

I disagree with the idea of Staal already being a #1 pair shutdown d-man. We have been constantly bashing Zherdev for not showing up in the playoffs, despite being our #1 offensive talent. Staal didn't do much in the playoffs either, Redden easily outperformed him on the defensive side of things.

Sure, in years to come, I think Staal will progress into being that #1 d-man, but as of yet he hasn't proved that he will be.

Gaborik.
We gotta take our prospect goggles off...
Gaborik is a top 10 player in the league. Thus, it is absolutely crucial he stays healthy for our success. He is more valuable than Staal.

Agreed, we also have a consensus #1 player, Henrik Lundqvist, who damn well makes our d-men look better then they are.

I wasnt bashing your pick. I also voted Gabby. It was your criteria that was flawed.

I guess it's safe to say that after the OP feels enough votes have been cast we can skip to #4.

Other than Hank, I don't think there's another player on the team that is virtually untouchable. He's not going anywhere.
