Gameday: Avalanche @ Wild - 2004-03-31

The return of Darby!

Roloson in net, Burns on D. We're 1-3-1 against the Avs this season. Gaborik needs two goals to catch Daigle for the team lead.

Wild 6, Avs 8.

No, not really.

Burns on D again? I can't say I like this move.

3-2 Avs. Goals by BURNS and Bouchard.

I think the Wild will play one of their best games of the season tonight, but lose.

Well, at least he's getting ice time. Honestly, would it be that bad to have a decently-sized, quick-footed, offensive D-man who likes to hit?

Hey, if you want to call Foppa 'Floppa', I'll call Gaborik 'Gabberbot'.

Hey now, what's this? Talking about Gabby when no one is here to defend him? 'Gabby' is just fine.

Daigle hits the 20 goal mark and the 50 point mark.

Very solid.

Finally... an OT win! Pretty fun game, actually. Some stuff to get riled up about, good and bad.. cheering, booing.. no fights, but Worrell wouldn't go with Moose when he asked.. I didn't miss it. I don't think I've ever seen Roli so PO'd at the refs. Did they show everything he did on TV? Knocked the net off.. yelling at the refs.. wouldn't get back in the net... kicked at the ice, then pointed at it to try to get a ref to repair it.. I'm really surprised he didn't get a penalty.
Bouchard's pp goal was a loverly thing to see.. nice setup from Gabby.. nice shot.. good stuff. And how 'bout Daigle? 20 goals, 50 points... not bad for a guy who supposedly would disappear after a couple of weeks into the season.
Nice to see Veilleux get some time in during the OT.. he sure made the most of it.
They put down nice vinyl decals all over the upper and lower levels, stars with name of the season tix holders. I took mine home before Sunday since we figured it'd get pretty trampled. That has nothing at all to do with the game, but I thought I'd share.

All you guys needed to do was win one of the games you lost or tied with us this season, and you wouldn't need to thank anyone.

Yeah, nice...too bad this probably makes him that much harder to sign next year...

I don't care what anyone says, this guy has talent. If he wants to, and that's a big if, but if he wants to, he can dominate play. At 29, he's hardly over the hill, and seems to be just hitting his stride. Playing under Jacques has only brought out another dimension of his game, defense. I don't know how many times I've been surprised by the effort he has given in his own zone. Forechecking, backchecking... he has learned to play responsible.

It has taken him a long time to understand that hockey is a team game and here's to hoping that he doesn't screw up a good thing.

20 and 50 is good...under any circumstance.

Yeah - I'll take that from a walk-on free agent any day of the week! Here's hoping for a big second season for this guy. I'm very glad he picked Minnesota as the place to finally find himself.

I think Daigle probably likes it here, too. In the post-game last night Lemaire repeated that story about how Daigle talked to the coaches during his little slump and said that in the past teams gave up on him as soon as he hit a slump, but he asked the coaches to be patient and he'd pull out of it. Since he got his chance, I'd think he's gotta be happy with the situation. We've got an option on him next year, right? 700k to 1 million something, I think, depending on his ice time. I'll be fairly upset if we don't pick up that option. He's worth at least one more season, I'd say.
