I'm going with McD who all reports make him sound like the next coming of Marc Staal. He's a can't miss prospect. Add Sauer.
but honestly, I love our defensive prospects. You could take MDZ, McD, Sangs, or Gilroy and put them in any order for spots 3-6 and it'll still look good.

They're very diferent players. I think Staal was more of a sure thing because nobody ever questioned his defensive abilities in junior. You knew he'd step in & play capably. The question was whether he'd reach an elite "Rod Langway" level.
Del Zotto is an offensive whiz with questions about his defensive abilities. You never know how well offensive talent on D translates to the pros. There was a guy name Bryan Fogarty once (and many others), who broke all kinds of records in junior, but he just couldn't duplicate it even at the AHL level. Will MDZ score enough, and will his defense be adequate? I'm hopeful about MDZ and Sangs too. But unlike Staal, I wouldn't say they're "can't miss." We'll just have to wait & see to know for sure.

the poster you quoted was voting for McDonough not MDZ.
Sanguinetti. Working hard to improve his game on the defensive size of the puck while putting up a solid season offensively with The Pack. MDZ has the higher upside, but Sanguinetti is closer to NHL ready.
I see Del Zotto's career following a similar path to Sangs. If he doesn't make the jump from Junior to the NHL.. he'll be a throw-in piece on the trade board in no time.
I live in Madison, WI and follow Stepan very closely and let me tell you McD isn't the real deal because of his flashiness. The guy just gets the job done.
Makes defensive plays and turns it around the other way. Never really catch him making a mistake with the ****, its always a quick pass, cycle, or put it on net. He's the closest to the real deal we have because of his lack of weakness and his stable play both ways.
I missed No. 2. It would have been between Grachev and MDZ and I really can't make up my mind anyway--so I'm glad it was made up for me. Anyway that means MDZ gets this vote and might as well add Sauer.

He was also drafted before MDZ. I hate this argument. (We also dont know for sure if he is. we will see come training camp.

I also voted for McDonough, add Hegelin
My Bad... I apologize to n8. That's why the comaprison to Staal didn't make sense to me.
Yes, McDonagh should be more like Staal in style, although the reviews you hear about McDonagh aren't quite as unanimous what you used to hear about Staal. I'm a bit more skeptikal because Montreal gave up on him, and I doubt they'd give up on a "can't miss" prospect as easily. I'd written in a previous post that it's hard to gauge a defensive player via statistics, and not many of us were watching U. of Wisconsin games with an eye on McDonagh last year. So until we see him in a pro uniform, it's hard to say for sure.
