Canes ink Carson, Rodney

Glad JR's a little more cautious with his words now. Rodney went from "playing his way off the team" to "having a chance to make the team"

So we can be thankful no one-way contract (Rodney) was given out here?

"a chance to make the team" makes me a little uneasy because it leads me to believe Andrew Alberts just signed on to play #4 with Carson, Rodney, Wallin, and Kaberle filling out the final pair. I suppose if someone else was signed or traded for and Kaberle was bought out then a spot would still be open so maybe im jumping to conclusions.

I still like Carson as our #6 heading into this season (Wallin as our #7, Kabs gone). He has the combination of size, skating and two-way ability that our team absolutely NEEDS and he's most definitely ready to make an impact at the NHL level.

But that would put Alberts as our #4, and that's not good. Alberts is a good bottom pairing defenseman, but the 2nd pairing is just too much time to have him out there.

Pretty sure Dave wants Alberts on the third pairing with Carson. Still hoping we'll acquire a #4 defenseman.

Yeah, I didn't say it in this thread, but Alberts-Carson is my ideal 3rd pairing for this year. Still not sure who I want as our last top 4 guy, whether it's bringing Seidenberg back or someone else via trade. I'd love Morris but he's out of our price range.

Resigning Seidenberg is starting to make more sense, but I suppose he'd have to agree to about the same amount of money he got last year. But if he or his agent has been spooked by the lack of interest he's received so far, it could happen.
