You need to take the teams they were playing on into account. Phoenix brought most of their top-end kids directly to the NHL, and haven't left San Antonio with a whole lot to work with. They're generally down near the bottom of the division standings out west. Korpikoski had the benefit of coming up through a perennial playoff team.

Flames just signed Dawes at $850,000 per for two years. For what that is worth.

Sweet. Looking forward to the terms.

2 years, one way at around $2MM total (i.e. $1MM per year) would sound good to me. One would think that they negotiated off of the Korpi deal and moved up a couple hundred thou due to the superior offensive numbers.

Dubi's contract is probably a little more complicated in terms of money and years. Lisin has yet to really do anything so it was probably not that much a of a negotiation. We will probably end up paying more Dubi's percieved potentional over the next 2-3 years. So it will be interesting.

I would guess that Dubinsky will not be signed until the Zherdev situation is resolved. It would not be good to sign Dubi, and not have enough to at least sign-then-trade Z.

The Rangers can go over the cap during the offseason. As long as they are under by Day 1 of the regular season, they don't have to worry about going over.

Watching his highlights again...if the Rangers defensemen can just be good at moving the puck up the ice for those breakaway passes, Lisin and Gaborik could be pretty damn dangerous. Two breakaway type players...

c'mon 2yr 1.8 million deal. Knowing Slats it'll be more like 1.8 per.

I dunno, Torts is the kind of guy who expects people to play hard and so long as you do that, he'll be find with you. He's not Keenan where he dislikes finesse guys.

I agree, he's a perfect 3rd liner.

Huh? Sather is fantastic when it comes to signing our RFA's to manageable contracts.

anyone think that perhaps Sather is trying to work out a trade for a center, therefore giving Dubinsky less leverage when it comes to financial demands he may have? Despite his numbers last season, right now he's at least our 2nd line center. If we were to go out and get a center who's going to be in the top six, that gives him a lot less bargaining power. So maybe Sather is delaying resigning him for a reason. Just a thought, Idk

Sounds like the opposite of almost every russian player I've seen play in the NHL.

EDIT: At least at the forward position.

the torts best defense is a good offense theory could help this guy alot since apparently he looks lost in his own zone...dubi and gaborick r very solid defensively nd I feel like those three on a line would absolutely do work

If I'm not mistaken he's a Tatar from East Moscow Oblast(Voskresensk). So, from what I understand, it's possible that he's a Muslim and it's possible that it's just a family name. Reason being that Tatars have covered a lot of ground and while some are Muslim, some are not, and because of where he is from it's too difficult to hazard a guess as to whether he's actually a Muslim or just has a Muslim name, which could be common in that culture, or even in his own family.

I'm no expert. I really don't know a whole lot about it. It's been discussed before and that's just kind of my vague recolection.

While I love Dubinsky, it's bad enough he's more than likely the best we can do to center Gaborik. If Lisin is also getting 1st line minutes, I'll be sick to my stomach. If it works, then I guess it's ok. But Lisin on Gaborik's line would be very similar to Marcel Hossa on Jagr's line, it works but at the end of the day you could do so much better.

This makes zero sense. Hossa's best year was 10 goals, while Lisin put up 13 as a 22 year old in only half a season (and not playing with Jaromir Jagr). Your comparison is just horrible.

I agree with you...but as per what Graves said from the 2 hours with Adam Graves thread, they can go out and get other guys to be the #1 center right now but they don't see the need to rush. The parts they would have to deal for that guy now are likely what they could deal later. So it's kind of a wait and see approach. If Dubi or nobody else on the squad can cut it...fine, make a move. But we don't have to have a perfect lineup on paper before opening night. People keep talking about "wasting" Gaborik because he has nobody to play with. But he's not here on a 1 year deal. I like the idea of this team showing some restraint and making the right moves.
