if people wouldn't quote him, it would look like the Jon without Garfield cartoons.

Vrana was ****ing awful. don't see how anyone could say he wasn't the worst of the three by a mile. he didn't get a fair chance, but really, I could see why he got pulled.

Vrana was better defensively than Bergfors by leaps and bounds, I don't know how anyone could even begin to debate that and was a much smarter player. And that is why he got all the ice time he did early on

They both got knocked off the puck pretty easily, couldn't fight through checks and that's why Vrana is back home and Bergfors will be next year.

He (Vrana) got a very "fair chance".

In his 3rd game against Philly he got 15:31 of Ice time. http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id...eason=20082009 Parise had games at that level of time

First 4 games TOI
7:02
10:50
15:31
14:45
6:19

I know facts don't mean much around here....Just curse a long with a wrong opinion and it holds more water with the D-bag crowd here

I shouldn't have been able to see that, but whatever.

first you quote 5 games as 4, and secondly, in the two games he got heavy minutes (right after Rolston got hurt, I guess?), he had a -1 and one shot on goal in 30 minutes. he stunk, was largely invisible, couldn't fight through a check like you said, couldn't defend anyone and didn't show much in the way of skill.

Bergfors was largely invisible too, but occasionally he did something where at least he showed remotely some skill level. and he didn't get 30 minutes in any two games.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder....Because I saw no flashes of skill or anything promising from Bergfors. At the end of the day Bergfors and Vrana prodoced about the same with the opportunity they both got.

Bergfors has looked ok during 2 camps and during the last preseason largely against AHL players. I don't see the reason anyone believes he is a player and If I'm wrong I'll be the first to admitt it.

and just to add, I have no clue what he's going to do. especially considering Lemaire is the coach and with the Devils, he wasn't particularly good with young forwards.

my whole point going back to the beginning of this never-ending circular arguement is that you don't go draft first round draft picks and then give them no opportunity to play in the NHL. he has yet to have an opportunity. I'm not going to sit here and tell you he's great, I have no idea, but because of where he was drafted, he deserves an opportunity to play. if he doesn't pan out, even as a bottom six forward, oh well. but with some of the crap we've circulated into the lineup, I'm kinda confused as to what the problem is with him making the roster (which he has to make, I'm sure if he stinks out the preseason, he won't be here) and getting an opportunity to play.

fine, you don't like him because he's not a PPG in the AHL. big deal, Gionta, who you're incredibly enamored with, he wasn't either. recently, neither was Clarkson... not even close. I guess they shouldn't have gotten a chance to play either, especially Clarkson, they didn't spend a pick on him, who cares if he washes out?

I wish Halischuk didn't get injured this year, I honestly think he would have made the team over a player like Bergfors.

And my point is Just because someone was a first round pick doesn't mean they deserve anything. It really is completey irrelevant how the Devils got the player -- Just ask Adrian Foster, David Hale, Ari Ahonen, JF Damphousse or Lance Ward.

The players need to earn their spot. EDIT: Who was the last Devil player that didn't get a chance that came back to bit us in the ass and have a real career with someone else??? I can't think of anyone...They didn't get a chance cause they simply sucked.

Clarkson made the Most of his opportunity...So did Gionta when he was given an opportunity. Those players were also multi-faceted Bergfors is not. Gionta started as a checker and scored in that role. Clarkson can fight and grind and he scored when he was given the chance.

When Petr Sykora came up he started on the 3rd line and scored in that role, same for Elias, Same for Brendan Morrison -- the core of the last youth movement. They all did well in Albany and earned their opportunity with 100X the competition to get a chance on the minor league team than Bergfors has to deal with.

If a player never has to spend a day in the AHL like Gomez or Niedermayer, great! But if they do it was because they weren't ready...When they are down there they need to first prove the deserve a look and second prove they belong. I personally feel Bergfors hasn't really proved either.

Wow, looking back, I overestimated for just about everybody except Greene and Bergie. Lots of them were injured of course, but still.
