The Official Questions Thread

With so many questions to be answered, why not have them all in one thread, and answered by fellow HF members.

Questions about the Salary cap?

Questions about contracts?

Questions about who played in a game 19 years ago?

Just direct them all here and we will all do our best to answer them.

And if some one could answer my question... Why are the Rangers still left out of the winter classic?

We have talked about setting up a Ranger FAQ for questions like, "How many years is Rissmiller signed for?" since it's asked almost monthly with the incorrect answer given a majority of the time.

Let's see how this goes, perhaps it will become that FAQ.

Ooo, ooo, ooo! I know this one!

Patrick Rissmiller signed for three years at $1m per year.

Sam Weinman, The Journal News:

I realize every one of the salary cap sites that I frequent as well has Rissmiller as having a one-year deal. But Ive been told from a definitive source that its three years at a $1 million apiece.

Andrew Gross, The Record:

That salary, by the way, was confirmed today as a three-year deal worth $1 million per, not just a one-year deal. It could turn out to be a relatively expensive mistake on the Rangers' part to sign him on the first day of the free-agency period.

Mark Hale, NY Post:

Rissmiller signed his three-year $3 million contract with the Rangers on July 1, a pact that earns him $1 million annually.

I think you have enough sources lol.

Any one know if... Since Brashear is signed to a multi year deal, and is over the age of 35, if he retires after his first year does the second still count against the cap?

How does the bonus cushion work? Is it a buffer that you get to spend and charges to next year or is it just a buffer that you get to spend?

I'm reposting this from another thread because it fits here better

has anyone heard of any updates on Dubi's contract situation? i don't think he's going anywhere but the longer he remains unsigned the better he looks to other teams (as other options for them close)

What is slats waiting for? could he be waiting to see what happens with Z first?

Last I read he was doing some kind of charity skate in alaska, and not in NYC negotiating, I"m i be way to paranoid?

Heh heh. Sorry, the point's been argued so many times that I just go back and cut/paste a response I first made about 8 months ago each time. It never seems to help though.

That is correct. From the CBA, p 190:

Quote:
All Player Salary and Bonuses earned in a League Year by a Player who is in the second or later year of a multi-year SPC which was signed when the Player was age 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the League Year in which the SPC is to be effective), regardless of whether, or where, the Player is playing, except to the extent the Player is playing under his SPC in the minor leagues , in which case only the Player Salary and Bonuses in excess of $100,000 shall count towards the calculation of Actual Club Salary.

RB mentioned in a couple of posts earlier this week that Sather is on a fishing trip (with Burke, I believe?) this week and that Dubi's agent is currently focused on his negotiations with the Devils (he also represents Zajac apparently). Of course anything can happen in the information age, but these two factors seem to indicate that we may not see any movement until next week at the earliest. (Much as that drives me crazy.)

Given that Z's arb hearing takes place that Friday, he may wait for that to conclude as well, although I think (or at least hope) the two situations would be viewed independently. (Especially given that you can go 10% over the cap during the offseason.)

Only certain players are eligible for bonuses in their contract. ELC contracts, players over 35 who sign a one year deal and players who sign a new contract after coming off major injury can all have bonuses as part of their contract.

If the conditions of the bonus are met, the bonus is applied to any unused cap space at the end of the year. If there isn't enough cap space left to fully cover the bonuses, the remainder is applied to the following year's cap.

Thanx for the update

Yeah i hope their being handled separately but the only thing that i could see as connecting them would be both of them involved in a trade

I really hope slats isn't building a package for richards.

Its pretty much just one giant thread for all questions. If you have a question post it here and hopefully someone among HF will answer it.

And for Dubinsky. As far as I know there have not been any changes in his contract status. My guess is the length wouldnt be more then 2 years.

Zajac just signed. Hopefully this means his agent has his full attention on Dubi now.

Thanks, I had the whole "eligible" part down but wasn't sure on how it effected the cap.

Why would Dubi do that? I'm not saying that wouldn't be awesome, because it would. I just don't see any reason he would agree to it.

Fleury played for the Belfast Giants of the British Elite Ice Hockey League during the 200506 season. He helped the Giants win the league championship, but was involved in several incidents including one game in which he attempted to climb out of the penalty box in order to reach an opposing fan who had taunted him. He retired after the 2005-2006 season.

UFA'S(Unrestricted free agents) can get offers from any team in the league or any league for that matter on and after July 1st of the year their contract is up.

RFA's(Restricted free agents) The team that the player last played for has the right to sign the player to an extension first before said player can accept any offer from other teams

I.E Someone offered zherdev 3mill to play in NYI but the rangers have the option of topping it(4mill) and signing him first.
