They are nothing special, just like Stemps is nothing special either.

I doubt it. It's been thrown out on the Blues board, but he is progressing. It's just slow progression. JD has been saying for months, and is still saying, that the Blues are assuming he will be ready for camp. Hence, I'm skeptical anything will happen for them on the trade/signing front.

You might have already seen it, but this is what STL's beat writer wrote on Brewer today: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...6?OpenDocument

Quote:
In the meantime, Davidson said the Blues are preparing as if Brewer will be available for the 2009-10 season.

"Until we hear Eric can't play, we expect Eric to play," Davidson said. "Will he be ready right at the start? We don't know that yet. Hopefully he is. We'll see where he's at when camp starts.

"If he's not (ready), we've got parts ... we've got pieces. Like any other part of the team, we have to deal with it from within. We've got good hockey players.
...
The Blues have $52 million committed to the 2009-10 payroll. Even if Brewer can't play the entire season, the team likely won't get any relief on his $4.25 million cap hit.

According to the NHL's collective-bargaining agreement, teams are only granted bonus money if they are at the cap (which will be $56.8 million in 2009-10) when they designate a player for long-term injury, and that's unlikely with the Blues.

"We're not going to the cap," Davidson said. "Our ownership has been very good with us. We're a team that has a fairly high payroll right now and we have the third-lowest ticket prices in league. We have budgets to take care of. We're open to anything, but right now, we feel Eric is a part of our team."

Yeah, I this article also says he hasn't even started any weight training. His being in camp is very unlikely.

Like stated previously, STL fans are so high on their Prospects they might as well be flying (good analogy? )..

If we get Backlund for Kabs, then well, I'd be happy..

Berglund, Oshie, Petro and Backes are the future of the blues and aren't going anywhere. This isn't just blues fans over-rating their players. They really are untouchable.

Perron was already almost traded at the deadline so he is not untouchable and is tradable for the right deal.

Not gonna happen but I'd love to see Burke get David Backes back in return.

30 goal scorer who nabbed 165 PIMs last season.

Well said. Add E.J. to that list. I really like what the Blues have going.

Building a deal around Perron would be a nice idea.

Thats the most reasonable deal, IMO. Might be a bit much for MVR... so maybe MVR and a 5th for a 2nd... or MVR for a 3rd, or something.

The point your missing is that were not a playoff contender making him expendable. We have Stralman ready to come in so we can replace him. There is no hole that can't be filled.

you really think Stralman can replace Kaberle. Stralman has a hard time already making the top 6, let alone taking his spot.

I think Stralman could replace Kaberle ... not without some struggles ... and in a retool where the team has added two top 4 defenders the perfect time.

One more progressive season in the AHL should do it for the top four. With enough NHL PP time over a few seasons I believe he has the ability.
