Flyers ranked #4 in Sports Illustrated pre-season poll

Quote:
With most of the major moves completed and training camps fast approaching, it's an ideal time for the first Power Rankings of the new season. Keep in mind that this isn't a predicted order of finish, and "last week" is merely where each team stood in the final regular season PRs for 2008-09. This is a highly subjective consideration based on what teams accomplished last season and how well they're likely to start off in October, taking into account the summer's key acquisitions and departures.
Quote:
Chris Pronger might be the most ideal late-career signing since Denis Savard joined the Canadiens. Pronger's snarl and skill, even in decline, give Philly a top-shelf blueline to match a deep group of forwards. Together, they might just be good enough to cover up for the new and unimproved netminding tandem of Ray Emery and Brian Boucher.

The Sharks are always near the top and they never do anything. They are like the Cubs of hockey.

Should be 3 with the Sharks below Boston or even Chicago..

it is not coincidence you have such a great team on paper than lose so easily in the playoffs

People really need to stop predicting great things for the Sharks until they do something in the playoffs.

Glass houses my friends, I can't count how many times the Flyers have been picked by many to be one of the Cup favorites in the last 15 years or so. Pretty much through the whole Lindros era and later.

In the end a lot of actual hockey publications and medea don't know whats going on, let alone some that just throw a hockey article out there once in a while because they figure they have to.

I will never pick the Sharks to win anything until they actually win something.

So we could lose in the semi's to a team we would face without Pronger due to the suspension the league would hand him? Smart.

Pens being number one is a joke. Their roster wasn't amazing last year and they downgraded defense this year.

If the Sharks are the Cubs of hockey, which was hilarious btw, then the Penguins are the Marlins of hockey. They will be on a steady decline now that they won one because of Crosby and Malkin handcuffing their cap until their contracts come up in 2013 and they wanna move on to a new, better team.

My rankings:
Detroit
Boston
Chicago
Philly
Calgary
Pitt
SJ

It's hard to say GKJ is a "fan". He is very critical and usually looks at the glass half empty.

GKJ, to me, is more of a follower of Philly sports, or a guy who would like them to do well, kinda. To me, fan is to much of a positive word. Fans think glass half full, at least occasionally.

Not to rag on GKJ though. Half this board is full of negative people. Like typical Philly fan, Negadelphia is the word.

When you think about it, since 2000 or 2001, the Eagles have had 1 season below .500 and have been to the Super Bowl once and the NFC title game 5 times. Not to shabby. The Phillies won the WS last year, and the Flyers are a perennial Playoff team with one bad season in recent memory. One. And they went to the ECF the following year.

We are fortunate really. But some people will never be happy I guess.

Even the Sixers have a rich history. Too bad they have done nothing in recent times, except that one Championship loss season with AI.
