CGY Trades Wayne Primeau to TOR for Colin Stuart, Anton Stralman + CGY 2nd 2011

This has now been confirmed on RDS:

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/279256.html

Why in the world would Burke move a quality prospect like Stralman for a freaking overpaid fourth liner who has played a combined 85 games in 3 seasons? This is beyond bad by Burke.

I thought they were high on Stralman.

As did I.

Stralman was being hyped by some on this forum as little as a year ago as the next Lidstrom. The kid did put up 21 points in the SEL as a 20 year old and he played on the national team that year at the World Championships.

This is an extremely odd trade and you would have to think the initial report is missing some picks going to Toronto. Hell, I wouldn't trade Stuart straight up for Primeau.

Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition Toronto Maple Leafs forward Colin Stuart and defenseman Anton Stralman along with Toronto’s 7th round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for forward Wayne Primeau and Calgary’s 2nd round pick in 2011.

It's not so lop-sided now that we see the 2nd round pick was added. It's still a strange deal though as Stralman seems to have a lot of promise.

I dont see that 2nd rounder being worth much, Calgary will finish fairly high and the draft isn't being touted as that deep.

Not worth a touted prospect like Stralman surely.

I wonder why gm's are willing to bail Sutter out somewhat - this allows them to clear a little capspace, albeit a small portion. Plus a 2nd round pick seems pretty high for a favour deal.

Calgary is allergic to draft picks.

Colin Stuart can be a good forth liner, he's no spring chicken but he has size and good wheels. Toronto got him in the Kubina deal and his bro plays for Boston.

Wow just hopped over to the Leafs board and they are not too pleased.

I'm torn- on one hand this should take Burke down a peg in the eyes of his worshippers, but man Calgary ran away with this deal.

Maybe it's the water in Toronto, but GMs just act retarted as soon as they get there.

How do you explain Burke's entire tenure in Vancouver? Or his last year in Anaheim?

Horrible trade by Burke, but really, is that surprising? The guy is an overrated GM.

The only reason I can think a rebuilding team would a trade like this is to gain the 2nd round pick. And that leads me to believe an offer sheet may be on the way? Who else is an RFA still out there?

I though you needed "your" 2nd round pick, not another teams pick to offer a sheet...?

A thread a while back stated that the Leafs were on the rise! I will not be holding my breath so long as Burke is in control.

It does. The Oilers reacquired their own pick back in order to complete the offer sheet.

Yeah you do, but my thinking he's doing the same thing Lowe was before his offer sheets. He stocked up on replacement picks. So technically they'll still have a pick in the 2nd round. So probably next year he may be looking for a offer sheet(just saw 2011 pick).

Ah I see. But when Lowe traded for the 2nd rounder, he traded to get his own pick back, as mentioned above.

it's just case of over-hyped prospect getting traded for future picks.. i mean is trading schremp for a 2nd + yelle a lob-sided deal?..
