Mayers vs. Primeau

Who is the better player for the fourth line role?

Asuming both are 100% Healthy.

I honestly Don't know because I haven't seen to much of Primeau.

Who is the better PKer
Who is better defensively
Who is better offensively
Who is more tough

Does Primeau even fight?

Thanks... I simply don't know... but I guess it's safe to say that these two players will be fighitng for the 4th line center role next season.

Mayers is a little faster and he can score a bit more than Primeau. I've watched these two play in the west a lot. They both can win faceoffs, Mayers has a slight edge in this case too, but it's marginal. Primeau can crush people at times, he can hit big, but not SO often. Mayers hits too, but not as big. They can both fight, and lose fights. Both play that PK-game, but I think Mayers is better, cause he skates better than Primeau. They both cool, smooth action.

Primeau is a salary dump! If by some miracle he shows up this fall ready to play, I guess there's a chance he'll start the season with the Leafs. Most likely his career ended last season.

Mayers is still an NHL player. A modest player but an NHL player.

On the money..

Primeau's a big boy with gritty embedded in his style.. Mayer's can win you a big faceoff and likes to play an up-tempo, forechecking style game.. I think Orr, Primeau and Mayers could give defenses fits on the dump-and-chase.. which will be nice for a change.. no more trying to end-to-end rushes by our medicore forwards.. throw it in the corner and make them bleed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

71 games of unimpressive play.

Now he'll have a buddy on the 4th.line.

Yes to all. He was a pretty decent player in 03-04 but has been declining ever since due to injuries and age. It isn't impossible that he could get healthy, stop the decline, and win a job, but probably not. Given his recent production and injuries I can't see Burke really expecting much. It was just money taken on to interest Calgary in the deal.

In NHL 09, Mayers is the first line right winger.

Mitchell's been SOOOOO overrated. He will be playing wing this season. Book it.

Probably the 4th line center spot that Stuart was going to compete for.

At one point in the season Burke said that Schenn, Grabovski and Mitchell were all "untouchable" (or something like that). Just because a player is popular doesn't automatically make him overrated. I think most of us "Mitchell-overraters" have a very realistic opinion of his skills. I suspect that the person that you quoted would simply prefer our young home-grown talent to get ice time over a Swedish import who doesn't have much of a future on the team.

Edit: I should say, though, that it is possible that Mitchell is converted to the wing. This wouldn't prove that Mitchell is overrated, however.

Woww.... so much ignorance in this post.

First off.... Mitchell is a 4th line centerman, starting to develop into a 3rd line centerman role.

I've seen some people propose that he should be our 2nd line centerman!

Wallin definately has some tallent. He has a very good shot at making the leafs..... He isn't just some random Swedish "import" that Burke brought in to lure Gustavsson. Wallin has size, skill, good two way play, is somewhat physical I beleive, and I've also heard he was good at faceoffs.

Wallin brings more character and leadership to the leafs lineup, and his two way play is much needed. Like Burke said, He is a Pahlson (sp?) type player.

The fact that you said that he was a Swedish Import that doesn't have much of a future on the leafs loses a lot of your credibility, and shows how Biased you are towards The 4th/3rd line centerman, John Mitchell.

Burke plans on having him in the line-up and helping if he can stay healty.

Well, he WAS a former first round pick so obviously he showed he can score when he was younger, but it's clear now that he's become more of just a grinder. I'm kinda excited to see our fourth line just wreck people. Primeau, in my eyes, isn't just here because Calgary wanted to get rid of him, I think he can seriously contribute to this team.

All a fourth liner needs to do is not screw up, Primeau is probably less likely to.
