Smaby's arbitration case allowed TB to buy out the player outside the regular period. Capgeek has the breakdown. 1.633 million over the next 6 years.

It's not 1.633, it's 1.167.

7m over 6 years to pay out. 10.5m left on deal, he gets 66.7% (2/3) of it. That's 7m.

7m/6 years = $1,166,666 per season.

I'm hoping he agrees to the waivers and a team picks him up. I really don't think anyone will, but nothing wrong with hope

As a Leaf fan, I secretly hoped TB would trade Prospal to Toronto for Jeff Finger, and they could buyout Jeff Finger.

Excellent point.

Odd that it took #54 posts for somebody to allude to this.

He didn't know TB could buyout a player outside the regular buyout. He is pissing into the wind like his hero. He doesn't know.

Buffalo could use Prospal. I'm surprised he got bought out though.

Well, based off his past record... a pretty good point total is expected this season from Vinny, so that's somewhat surprising.

Hey, if Vinny wants to come to Philly again, possibly under our cap budget, than fine. From what I understand though, he didn't want to be here for that short time he was. Oh well...

Heatley + Kelly for Lecavalier?

That trade doesn't even make sense for both teams. Sens have Spezza and the Lightning would lack a #1 center (Stamkos isn't there yet). The Sens would need a winger in return...

It can't see a trade for Hedman or Stamkos and i don't see the Sens taking back Meszaros or getting Ohlund, who came to TB as a UFA...

Malone? Hmmm not sure Ottawa would be interested and anyway couldn't be the center piece of the deal. St-Louis? Could be but why TB would remove Lecavalier's friend and teammate with who he had success? Heatley for St-Louis would be a lateral move at best.

No, i don't see it

Well, this is quite a surprise...Prospal's contract was fine. As a matter of fact, I thought it was a great deal when it was first done, as he was coming off a very strong season and play-off performance with Philly. I expected him to get more than $3.5m at that time.

But anyway, about that whole 24-hour waiver period thing...I didn't know about that. Has any player that has elected to go on waivers after a buy-out ever been claimed? What are some examples of that situation?

If Prospal elects to be placed on waivers, what would happen then?
I doubt he will come back to the Flyers, I believe I heard that he didn't want to stay with them after being a rental player for the 07-08 playoffs, though I very well could be wrong. I think it would be good if we got him though.

I'm not one to defend an Eklund employee but JJ has been very reliable with Lightning stuff. I've followed him for over a year now and he was only wrong about a small signing. He beat everybody to the full Boyle trade, Ohlund/Walker signing, Niittymaki, Recchi etc. Plus unlike Eklund he is known by Lightning fans so when we see him talking to Koules or Lawton at games or practices we know its true.

Yup, Philly's forwards are looking a little depleted with both Knuble and Lupul out the door. That's not to say their forward core isn't still good; it's just that it isn't as deep as it was before.

Prospal could be useful to Philly. He had good chemistry with Briere, and his streakiness won't be a big issue since Philly has other more important forwards.
