Have we had a Nils Ekman thread yet?

second in team scoring with 51 points, tied for first in assists, and over 20 goals..

a complete sleeper coming into this season with no expectations spoken outside of san jose, a guy that farted around for a couple years after his tampa stint i believe in the rangers system, and finally gets a chance..

nice to see lots of guys breaking out in san jose as well, mccauley, cheechoo.. hell even korolyuk has had a strong first year back...

Don't think so, but he's certainly deserved one. Definitely one of the biggest surprises this season.

Gees awfully silent on this one. Maybe Ekman doesn't have the 'it' factor HF members are looking for to start overhyping the player in question and starting flame wars?

In all honesty Ekman could win the Selke (though as a homer I'm required to root for Draper).

And we will probably see him in the World Cup for Sweden. Don't be surprised if we see him in a line with Markus Näslund and Peter Forsberg.

He would be a good Selke candidate had he not just burst on the scene from nowhere. Next year, if he repeats his performance, he will be.

The line of McCauley/Ekman/Korolyuk is playing so well right now. That's the #1 line, not the Marleau line or the line Cheechoo is on.

Ekman is great, but Korolyuk...wow! I love watching that guy play.

too bad sutter didn't--Korky got a bum wrap with him. I'll always have a special place in my heart for sutter, but he sure had his head up a really dark place on that one.

My Ekman moment of the year was his penalty shot. He was more confident than any other penalty shooter I've ever seen--yes, ever. As soon as it was called, he skated over to the bench started high fiving everyone as if he already scored. He KNEW he was gonna score, it was predetermined. It was an amazing and very special moment, wish I had the video of that one.

Long time coming for Eks. He had a really nice, although brief, stint on Vinny Lecavalier's line a few years back and I knew then he was going to make it sooner or later. I absolutely hated to see Dudley ship him off for Taylor (who I've since learned to appreciate) when we were already deep at center, and then spend the next two years looking for a winger to play with Lecavalier. The Rangers were complete dopes not to give the guy a chance, but then what else is new?

as a sharks fan it is great to see that despite the lack of star power on the sharks that the coach and the players are producing at star levels...maybe not it offensive points but certainly as a team in wins!!! Thats what i like to see...I never gave korky much credit either but under wilson's system he has flourished!!

I call that the Second Chance line. Korky rules...he was all over the ice last night. I thought he was the best PKer (yes penalty kill) on the ice last night.

Since March 9, Nils Ekman (+15), Alex Korolyuk (+13) and McCauley (+12) rank first, second and third respectively in plus/minus in the league. (according to a sjsharks.com article)

That's kinda cool for three guys who have twice "3rd line player" and once "4th line player" as career potential on their TSN profile.

'it' factor has nothing to do with it. he plays for the sharks. in toronto, montreal, detroit, or colorado he'd be hyped as the second coming.

Exactly. SJ is way out of the media aura. Say Kipper were to be doing exactly what he's doing in Calgary in SJ. Just imagine for a minute, that Kipper stayed a Shark. He'd still get no love. It's totally understandable. SJ gets no love in the Bay Area either. The city is behind San Francisco and Oakland.

I just watched the replay of McCauley's first goal from last night. The whole line just seems to click together so well, it was amazing. When Wiseman got traded for Ekman, I was like, who is this guy? Glad to see it was more than worth it.

Oh, and just to toss more fuel into the fire, what if Nils was Canadian?

No it is Dupuis>>>>Ekman>>>>Ilya and thus Dupius>>>Gretzky+Gainey combined

Brent, and Bob's crappy son that is. But seriously I am impressed with Ekman this year, I didn't even notice how good he was doing until the playoff pools got going.

So who does have him in their fantasy hockey pool? That must have been one hell of a pickup.

Last year around this time, there was some dude who started a flame war by saying Dupius >>>>> Kovalchuk.

So now its a big joke to everyone who remembers.
