What about Mikko Koivu?

If Dubinsky doesn't work out... What about Mikko Koivu centering the first line? He is a tremendous playmaker. He can also PK and is pretty good at face offs. 52%. He is only 26 so he would fit into this teams dynamic..

He is signed till 2011 at a very reasonable 3.25m/yr.

I don't know much about the wild other than they are a defense first team so I guess the more D for them the better...

Would
Zherdev
McDonagh

for

Koivu work?

I like him but I don't see any reason the Wild would trade him.

Trades just don't work that way

Yeah I know.... But if you give enough they do. Zherdev is just as skilled if not more skilled than Koivu and they get a GREAT defensive prospect to be added to their group of defense.. I'm pretty sure McDonagh could be a 5-6th man for most teams this year and most likely an effective defender the next

If we could get him without giving up alot of out youth, then yes. otherwise ill pass. I like him, I like him alot, but I dont want to end up hamstringing us in the future.

I just don't see it. Like you said, he's got a real good contract, he's basically the team leader and one of, if not their best offensive player, and he's a better offensive player than Zherdev. He's basically their go to guy and team leader right now. I don't think he's on the market at all

1) minnesota loves him, you would have to greatly overpay
2) minnesota is not looking to be defensive anymore

Essentially untouchable then. I did not realize he was a team leader. That's like us trading away Dubi.

For the right parts I think they would do it. I just don't know if we have them.

I'm guessing they would need a replacement center, another good roster player[Zherdev] and a pick/prospect[McDonagh?]. We just don't have that replacement player and that still might not be enough because Zherdev will only be signed for one year....

This proposal makes absolutely no sense for Minnesota.

Sigh...I really can't wait for the summer to end.

I mean if we are going to wish for someone who is young and very good I would go for Paul Statsny.

Wild are NOT giving Koivu up. Especially for that trade.

Koivu IMO is one of the most underrated players in the league. Also he is now pretty much the Wild's go-to guy. I doubt they would even consider moving him.

Not enough, not anywhere near enough. Minny isn't trading Koivu because he's signed for couple more season and is a bargain. He is also 26. Unless Grachev or Anisimov are part of the package along with Zherdev, Minny wont even listen...

I'd love for it to happen (afterall, we just traded away our only player from Turku ), but it would take a massive overpayment to pry Koivu away from Minny. They've basically set him up to be the offensive fulcrum of the franchise.

Similarly, Paul Stasny would cost a heck of a lot, but he might be an even better option. Again, I don't think he's anywhere near being traded, though.

I'd part with Anisimov for Koivu, but probably not Grachev (his potential is just too high, even if he's not as sure a thing at this stage as Ani). It's funny, I don't even think of Zherdev as being on the Rangers right now, because I don't think Sather will like whatever ends up being the result of arbitration...

under the premise that Dubinsky didn't work out for us, I'd think you'd have to have a package like

Dubinsky + McDonaugh + Sanguinetti

to get Koivu + ??? He hasn't proven he has more offensive punch than Scott Gomez so I think he's not worth that much.

I've got an idea, let's go after every good young center in the league with a great long term contract. Buffalo is sure to want to deal Derek Roy to us, same with the Wild and Koivu.

Why would Minny give him up? Just because you can offer a decent package for a player doesn't mean a team has interest in giving him up.

You'd have better luck getting Kopitar out of LA or Zetterberg out of Detroit. Better yet, Stastny in Colorado is nice and young too.
