Rick Wilson

Im wondering what you think of Rick Wilson who we hired to be assistant coach and take care of the defense and boxplay? His records seem to be good and that he stayed so long with you is another good sign but what was his status and why do you think he left? Was he looking for a new challenge?

Any input is welcome

Todd Harvey, Adam Oates and Darren Puppa, you are all missed in the game of hockey!

More like, we let him go.

I'm pretty sure if he had a choice, he would've stayed here in Dallas.

By all accounts he's a good coach. He was let go when the Stars made the coaching change, but our defense has been pretty good during his tenure. I also think that his experience working with a puck-moving goalie like Turco (and Smith) will help in his duties in Tampa.

My opinion of him is not high.

Wilson is as good as the defensemen you give him. He is not good at hiding weaknesses in pairings, and although he's a decent long-term developmental guy, he's been unable to help defensemen hide flaws in the short-term.

He's been in Dallas forever, but I think a lot of his success was because of the high caliber of defenseman he had. Last season, when you took elite guys like Zubov and the above average guys like Norstrom out of the mix, the defense was atrocious. A lot of that was due to poor pairings (Niskanen and Sydor spent much of the season being a black hole of suck together).

I've wanted him gone for years, and I'm glad he's finally out of here.
