Looks like the hockey gods really liked Washington, they trade away all thier stars and get rewarded with Ovechkin and a bunch of other prospects and draft picks.

Interestingly enough, I never realized that the Caps have only selected #1 twice before this one.

1976

That's a long time. I guess that's the problem when they've never really had a stinker of a team (since the expansion era).

Sounds sort of like the B's old MO. Just good enough to make the playoffs. End up with #12 - 20 pick.

Not to mention getting Jakub Klepis for Mike Grier. Steal IMO. Add that in to the all the picks they have this year (3 1st and 3 2nd I believe) and they will be really strong in two years.
