Predictions: Highest scoring tandem in 2004/2005 (next season)

Well I am bored so I decided to start another ridiculous prediction thread. If there is a season next year, which duo on a team do you think will have the highest combined scoring? My Top 5 (Yes, I started this thread in large part because I am a Thrasher's homer and our season is almost over ):

1. Kovalchuk/Heatley
2. St. Louis/LeCavalier
3. Hossa/Alfredsson
4. Sakic/Hedjuk
5. Datsyuk/Lang

If you're talking points, you could add Tkachuk/Demitra, Thornton/Murray, and Elias/Gomez to the mix.

I don't think you can ignore the Nazzy/Bert combo either... it could go either way though... either Bert will be really pumped up and have a great season - and seeing how Nazzy is on the last year of his deal and possibly gone after, I'm sure he'll be motivated as well (as will Bert to help his buddy)... or Bert won't get back to his 40 goal 90+ point game and they won't be in the running.

as a canuck fan I can only be optimistic about it though.

Most likely it'll be Kovalchuk/Heatley.

thought I read somewhere that the worst team in the league has only gotten the top pick once since the lottery was introduced?? is this true?

I almost hope that the Pens don't get the top pick - nothing against the Pens, just that I like the idea of the lottery which gives incentive not to throw the season for a top pick... I remember when Lemieux was drafted 1st overall, there was a lot of criticisim that the Pens threw the stretch to secure him in the draft (not that they've done this with Ovechkin).

Would you rather see him go to the Rangers?

Pens have hardly thrown this season, you want to punish us for something that happened to us 20 years ago?

And the team finishing last has only won the lottery twice so history is against us, but the odds are for us. It's beyond overdue.

Yeah, I probably would, just to hear the reactions from angry fans.

And then the Rangers would ruin him and he'd be a bust, and it would be great because everyone seems to think he's Wayne Jr when he's never even played a single NHL game.

Big Bert had a great season last year and missed ten early games for leaving the bench.

I'm not suggesting that the Pens be punished for what they did 20 years ago (even said that they haven't thrown the season for Ovechkin)...

just that overall it'd be good incentive for teams if the bottom overall team doesn't get the top pick - whether that's the pens or any other team.

personally I don't really care where he goes... although if he did go to Pittsburg the good thing would be that Mario might have some more incentive to come back for another year, and it'll definitely be interesting watching one of the greatest players ever play mentor and linemate to a rookie who's had more hype than any other since Lindros.

that was the year before he got suspended... he broke out that year as a point producer... last year he wasn't suspended, and I think he played in all games.

The team finishing last has a 50/50 chance of getting the first overall pick. Actually, it is a 48.2% chance, so damn close to 50/50. I hope that the Penguins get Ovechkin. I would love to see Lemieux tutor a potential prodigy like Ovechkin.

Do other teams' fans really think so little of Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund as to not even mention them in this thread? (Some did, but they were all Canucks fans)

But if the team finishing last overall earned that last spot...

I'm for the lottery because of what it does, but usually the team finishing last will have deserved that distinction. The Penguins have this year.

I am a big believer in Naslund but not Bertuzzi as much. i think Naslund/Bertuzzi could be top 5 next season but I believe in the other 5 tandems i posted more.

Actually, on 2nd look, I think I would rate Naslund/Bertuzzi ahead of Datsyuk/Lang for the 5th spot.

Indeed he did play in all games. In fact Naz, Mo, and Bert all played every game.
