How the hell was Burke susposed to know that bringing in guys like Devereaux, Jeff Hamilton, Martin Gerber and Jay Harrison to lead the team would hurt our draft position? Noone in their right mind could have seen that coming.

Let me guess, next will be Luke Schenn for Adam Foote?

Most in their right mind don't think it really helped the team. Those who aren't able to think logically look at a game or two, instead of the overall picture. Boyd scored a hattrick in the last game, but was not one of the more productive players on the team before that. Hamilton was a one-way offensive player who struggled to put-up points for the Leafs. There's a good chance Tlusty and Williams would've given the team similar production, if not better. Little younger, little more to prove and a little more adrenaline for playing in the show again. Gerber is really the only one that made a difference and what option do you have? Embarass a man for 20+ games or continue to throw Pogge to the wolves when he isn't ready? Cujo was downright awful for the Leafs, anyone getting that caliber of goaltending from their starter tries to improve. Gerber was a secondary option for us, and wasn't used until both Cujo and Pogge failed repeatedly.

Stralman interview, post trade. He doesn't mention asking for a trade, just that he wasn't surprised when it came. Something else, it wasn't Burke who called him, it was the Marlies GM. Even though no one expected him to make the Leafs, it was Burke who traded him. Seems like Burke wouldn't give Stralman the time of day. Or maybe that kind of thing is business as normal and I'm reading something into it that's not there.
