Predators propose "Dynamic" addition to Bridgestone Arena - fully paid for by team

Quote:
During the Predators' Skate of the Union event Wednesday, chief operating officer Sean Henry hinted at a "dynamic change" to the upper bowl of the arena. Now, it's clear what that change will be.

In his report to the Metro Sports Authority, Henry included renderings of a planned "Fan Zone" to be located between sections 316 and 319. In a letter attached to the report, Henry describes the "minor renovation" as "the can opener," since the project requires peeling off the corrugated metal which currently lines the upper deck.

The enhancement will add about 100 seats to the arena's manifest, and possibly more if it can be used as a standing-room only section.

Henry describes the Fan Zone as a way to bridge the energy from inside the bowl into the concourse, as well as a way to give upper-bowl patrons "the most unique entertainment area in our building."

"This open space will feature a drink rail made out of our old dasher boards and will upgrade our current ADA seating in this area," he writes. "This will become the most visited area in the building for our biggest events."
http://nashvillepost.com/news/2011/7..._arena_planned

Cost of the renovation is scheduled at $89,788 and will be fully funded by the team.

I'm moving across the arena to Section 319 this season, so I'm pretty excited actually that this will be at the top of my section.

Among the other changes mentioned at the Skate of the Union were the current back entrance to the arena becoming the front entrance in the next two years as the convention center is completed, continuous updating of the concession areas and menus, player, community, and team murals going up throughout the arena, etc. Sean Henry actually said that fans should expect the arena to be under a constant state of renovation during the upcoming years every offseason.

The key point here though is that it was stressed that every upgrade to the facility would be paid for by the team and not with taxpayer money.

Seems to be a theme for renovating-Rangers and Lightnigh among other teams are adding a "fan zone' among their renovations of a similar "open/standing room" nature. Props to the Preds for paying for it themselves-a nice thank you to the fans for supporting them through the years.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I remember that the Lightning had a Fan Zone when they were playing at the Thunderdome/Trop and it worked to a good degree. They were able to have really solid attendance numbers back then(although the "new car smell" effect of the franchise might have had something to do with that as well I suppose).

The clock reads 56:39. Nashville is all of a sudden trying to be all European or something??

And what's with all the empty seats? Southern franchise fail....

Well, there's obviously a time vortex in that image, as you can see the exact same couple by the section 320 sign and to the lower right of the "E" in "Zone."

WRT clock, sometimes teams set the clock for the end of warm ups, so when folks first walk in the door, there may be almost 60 minutes before that event.

Clocks can count down from higher than 20 minutes.

I think you guys are just over thinking this. Lots of scoreboard renderings don't make sense. Take the new Bradley Center scoreboard for instance.

Only 12 minutes in a quarter in the NBA yet the scoreboard shows 12:22.

Standing room only seats are where there is a designated area for folks to stand to watch the game, but do not come with a seat. I'm assuming the SRO section would be up against the drink rail judging by the artist's rendering.

And as coincidence would have it, Sean Henry is the COO in Nashville now and he used to run the arena in Tampa Bay...

No, they're two sets of identical twins who found love on eHarmony. Remember the Babych and Buffie twins?

BTW, not crazy about the blue tile look. Kinda makes it look like an open-concept washroom to me.

Remember, it's an artist's rendering. The final product could look completely different.

And that looks like a painted wall with a pattern to me. I highly doubt they would tile that.

The Buffie Twins, That sure doesn't come up every day but when it does, I remember.

90K for 100 seats that will boost the atmosphere, seems like a no brainer investment. They should pay it off in a season or two.
