Jaroslav Halak, no question. Personally I think he should be much higher even though he's our "backup" goalie when Price is doing well. When Price has a bad spell, Halak always saves the day

This poll is a joke.

If Gorges or Latendresse get hurt we have guys who can replace them and it wouldn't be that noticeable. If Price gets hurt or struggles we NEED Halak to come up huge for us. Isn't that the point of the poll? To see who is more valuable to our team? I guess during the 4-game win streak where Halak played a huge role in us winning each game last year that showed us he's the 13th most valuable player on the team.

Your reasoning isn't very good... If Gorges or Latendresse get hurt, yes they can be replaced. And if Halak gets hurt, he can also be replaced since he's just the back-up goalie.

13th spot looks right for Halak IMO.

Right now Price is the #1a goalie and Halak is the #1b. Price is probably my favorite player on the team but he hasn't showed he can play 65-70 games a year and be the #1 guy over the full season, until then Halak needs to come up huge for us and start 25-30 games minimum in the most important position and step up big time if Price struggles or gets hurt.

You're saying that if Price is struggling and Halak is hurt Curtis Sanford will give us a chance to win like Halak would? Until Carey shows he can handle being a #1 netminder our backup goaltender is going to be very valuable in terms of the team's success.

Well maybe not quite as good, but it's not really as bad as you may think. Sanford is a fine backup goaltender who can have stretches of brilliance... just like Halak.

no actually his reasoning is quite solid. When we play halak, he can single handedly win us or lose games, latendresse, lapierre etc etc are support players on this team as much as i love them.

Yes, but his reasoning was flawed anyway. Look at this:

So, if Latendresse is hurt, we can replace him, but if Price is hurt, Halak needs to step up.

He's comparing Lats and Price here, not Lats and Halak.

The right way would be:

If Latendresse is hurt, we can replace him, but if Halak is hurt, we need Curtis Sanford as a backup. In my mind, that isn't much of a problem either.

Or, we could make a case that Latendresse is as important cause:

If Mike Cammalleri is hurt, we need Latendresse to step up in the scoring department, and if Price is hurt, we need Halak to step up.

See? Maybe you understand what he means, and I don't disagree either, but the reasoning was completely flawed.

Our goaltending can't be compared to forwards, they are completely different situations with our team.

Right now Cammalleri has proven he's a top line winger but Latendresse has not proven he can be one so that's not the same thing.

For our goalies we have Price who at the moment is our #1 goalie but he hasn't proven he can be a #1 goalie for the whole season despite showing flashes of brilliance. When I mentioned if Price gets hurt I also mentioned if he struggles as he has been inconsistent in the past, if Cammalleri struggles we have like 3 or 4 forwards who can step up for him, one being Latendresse, but if Price struggles we NEED Halak to come up big and that is why he is so much more valuable than some of the guys being voted ahead of him because the goaltending position is so important. Halak has showed how valuable he can be at key times for the team in the past like when Huet got hurt and he almost helped lead us to the playoffs or when he helped steal 4 games in a row from the team last year.
