Bruins in trade talks with 2 Western Teams regarding Kessel
Ahhh, being stuck 'on the coast' you may have missed geography lessons but the 'West Coast' doesn't necessarelly mean along the shore line. Alberta, as well as Sask, Man and BC are on the "West Coast" of Canada....you know, west of Ontario..It doesn't have to be taken literally...
Why would you think L.A. would be involved? The Kings are overloaded with Right Wingers.
True, but maybe Lombardi's going to perform a more radical overhaul of the team than previously thought? It's not like all of team's assets are for sure going to stay in place.
This got me thinking, if the contract talks continue to stall and no trade is made, what if this goes right up to the start of the season and then someone makes an offer sheet? This is something that has been done before. The natural assumption is that if a team offers the 1st/2nd/3rd package to my cap tight team, my team will still match and just move other players to clear space. Teams know this and aren't going to send Kessel a $4.5M offer (or whatever the 1st/2nd/3rd max compensation is).
But what if the start of the season is tomorrow? It's one thing to have two months to clear cap space, its another to get it done by tomorrow. If we're talking West Coast then a team like LA has the space to add Kessel now without moving any salary. Now in all likelihood Chiarelli will get something done before, but with the clock ticking it's no guarantee.
Kessel most likely will be out until December with the shoulder surgery he underwent. These rumors will continue for the next few months because the Bruins do not have to do anything (aside from matching an offer sheet) until the November 1st deadline.
I think this helps Chiarelli because he will have a month to asess what is going on around the league and either trade kessel or trade the extra forwards to make room to sign Kessel.
I doubt we see anything happen with Kessel until october.
I would think that Boston is going to want a player to fill in for the slot Kessel leaves and then a player who has potental to be as god as Kessel in three to five years. From the Oilers I think that is Cogliano as the fill in player and MPS as the prospect. Fits all the criteria that Boston wants. The only problem is that Cogs is a restricted free agent in a season and that would put the Bruins back to square one next summer.

?????
Not in any geography course I have ever taken would a team on the other side of the Rockies be considered West Coast.
Now if the rumour was a western team then that would work.
I have never heard any person from Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba consider themselves as living on the West Coast.
Yuck no. Wouldn't trade Versteeg straight for Kessel. Versteeg is locked up for 3 years at 3m per. Kessel will be making more than that. Versteeg also plays good defense and plays with a good amount of grit in the corners and around the boards. Chicago is a bad destination for Kessel. Hawks already have too much scoring depth. Hawks also already have one one-dimensional midget in Kane and don't need another.
its funny that a year ago today you could have gotten Kessel for a 2nd rounder and a low end prospect. How times have changed!
That was never the case. At this time last season he was coming off a 20 goal season as a 20 year old, an impressive playoff performance (despite being scratched), and a strong showing at the WC by leading team USA in scoring. In no way could he have been had for a 2nd rounder + a low end prospect.
