There is no indication that Theodore will be playing many games. Back-to-back situations only, although the situation is fluid. With a bad game from Neuvirth, that is all it will take for Theodore to get another crack at the net. Yet Neuvirth has been solid. Theodore has been supplanted for now, and he's getting a tired Caps team playing its second in as many nights lately when he does play. Now on the other hand, he has not helped his own cause of late.
IR or AHL roster: Varlamov
IR: 1 or both of Pothier and Erskine
Erskine: Last game played Jan 9
Green: Day to day, undisclosed injury
Pothier: Last game played Jan 13, undisclosed injury
Varlamov: Knee injury (following groin injury) - Last NHL game played, Dec 7; Last AHL game played: Jan 3; latest update: has not practiced in a few days
1. He's gone to Hershey as soon as Varlamov is healthy. When Varlamov next plays, however, is an open question. Could be tomorrow, could be weeks. He has not played since 12/7/09. He has seemed close to returning for a while now.
2. Much can change, but it certainly looks as though Varlamov will start, and Neuvirth will be the backup, for the Capitals next season. It's not written in stone that Neuvirth only sees <30 games, however, in that scenario. The Caps surely want them to push each other, and Varlamov's long stint on the IR this year certainly raises questions about durability.
