Sorry guys, TSN had it all wrong. They said he was pulled in the last game (vs NYR??) and that Varlamov came in and didn't have to make any saves.
For the record I think Theodore will have a decent year. He has good enough stats to help a really good team be at the top of the standings IMO. Good luck this year!
hey guys, just wondering who will be the caps starter this year?
has Varlamov earned the position or will it still be Theo, or will they split time most likely?
thanks
Theodore came into camp number one despite the playoffs. He played decently in limited action. Varlamov played a little bit better but not enough better to claim the job. Neuvirth possibly played the best, but his slight injury along with coming into camp 3rd probably kept him from a spot on the Caps this year.
I don't envy someone trying to do a fantasy team with one of the Captials goaltenders this year. It's going to be a night to night guessing game for at least half the year, I'd imagine.
who do you guys think will have more points this year, Laich or Fleischmann?
Brooks Laich is almost guarenteed to barring injury. He's scored more points each of the last two season (37 to 30, 53 to 37), and Fleischmann is starting the year on injured reserve. He should get a good bit of time on the first powerplay unit, and everyone got a chance to see what that can do last night.
Frankly, Flash may end up on the third line much of this year with Steckel and Clark when he's back healthy since Laich has played his way into a top 6 role.
Where is the best place to go to find out who is going to be starting in goal from night to night?? For fantasy starting roster purposes, of course. Thanks.

Why was Knuble removed from the top line? He's not even getting PP1 minutes. I know it's early in the season, but is he playing badly or out of shape? From what I've gathered from your board, he played exclusively with Ovechkin and Backstrom in preseason, so now what?

Mostly because Ovie-Backstrom-Semin is in god-mode right now, and Laich is pretty hot right now so he's getting the top PP unit time instead of Knuble (also may be a righty-lefty issue, that top PP unit already has 3 righties without Knuble). I don't think it's an indictment of Knuble at all, and if it is it hasn't been public (him getting the "A" would suggest otherwise regardless, though).
SOB will get too cute and become ineffective before long, and Knuble will be moved up. Then they'll probably be put back together later again, and so on. Hard to say if the PP will be shifted at all, may depend on Laich more than anything.
@Bat After watching Ovechkin struggle a year ago, and Semin the best in the league at the same time, Bruce appears have decided to avoid last years slow start for #8 and moved Knuble down to our second line. How long will the SOB line stay intact? It depends on how the second line does. If they kick ass, Knuble will stay with Laich and BMo. If they struggle, look for Knuble to be moved up top.
About his PP time, I think Bruce is making up for his mistake a year ago of demoting Laich of PP1 in the playoffs. Giving Laich time on PP1 this year surprised many and with his early success again Bruce is not going to be inclined to change it up before he sees the need. PP1 is too deep to fit Knuble in. In due time.
10/12 - Theodore is getting the start kids. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Seems as though Theodore is getting the majority of the starts this season... is this an issue of Theodore having Boudreau's trust, Theodore being the better goaltender, or Theodore simply playing better early on this year? Any Caps fans want to venture a guess of how many starts Theodore will see this year compared to Varlamov? Thanks.
Saw that Theodore left a recent game with injury. How bad is it? And how has Varlamov looked?...i know he had a shaky start to the year. Someone just dropped him in my fantasy league, and if Theo is hurt...Varlamov will get the starts...no?
