That is actually arguable. Anyone that has seen Semin play consistently can see why people claim hes underrated. He has so much talent. Outside of Datsyuk I dont think theres a better dangler. And many consider him to have the best wrist shot in the game right now. Thats a lethal combination. He also had like the 2nd highest ppg average this season and would have been a potential challenger for the art ross this year if he hadnt hurt himself and missed like 20 games. Like I said, when hes motivated, hes top 10 in the league.

No way dude. He might be better in one department, maybe. But when you compare overall players, I don't think it's close. OV is a beast. Admired and feared, for several reasons. Semin is good, but OV wins by a landslide.

Hemsky is a better dangler than Semin.

Talent wise Semin is better. Ovechkin just has put it all together, and has a better head on his shoulders.

Really you think it's funny? Thanks. I guess you think Ovy is an idiot too since he said it as well.

You forgot Nikulin, who's likely to play on the top pairing with Markov. Also Russia usually play with 4 defense pairings.

The coach is Bykov, not Bure. Zherdev's lack of production at the Worlds is the reason he's not selected, disirregardless of whatever he did in the less-important NHL playoffs.

I definitely see what Gongshow is saying here.

I think some of you interpreted the statement of Semin being more "skilled" as him saying that Semin is just overall the better player. I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth but that's not how I interpreted it.

Semin is a better passer and a better puckhandler/dangler IMO. When I see the word "skilled" I think of those two qualities along with shooting. I'd also say that Semin's shot is just as good as OV's. He just doesn't use it nearly as frequently.

Ovechkin is the better player because he is stronger, fiercer and more determined. However, I don't think it's crazy to say Semin has more raw talent and skill than Ovechkin.

He got injured like 2 games in...? And the WC's is so much more important that Semin, Ovechkin, Fedorov, Gonchar, Kozlov, and Datsyuk decided they should stay in the "less important" Stanley Cup playoffs.

Whether you like it or not, it's more important to a Russian coach trying to form a Russian team to see how a player actually performs in the Russian team with Russian linemates.

on the russian team with russian linemates that also aren't going to make the team when arguably the 4 best players on the russian team weren't playing because they were doing more important things

The real surprise is an absence of invite for Khabibulin.
How many Cups did Bure win, again?

You can't fill out a team with just finess forwards. You need role players as well, duh. The Canadien team leaves tons of good forwards off the team for role players. Why should Russia be any different? I would think Zherdev is one of the top 10 skilled Russians, may, maybe not. But a guy like Artyukin (sp) can play the physical role when, not if, the North American teams get nasty.

Frolov is a lock to make the team. But nice try

Also Zinoviev has a chance to make it too, being probably 5th on the depth chart at center.

See how Saprykin is now likely to make the team based almost solely on his chemistry with Radulov?

But sure the NHL playoffs are so much more relevant.

Okay, I misunderstood, and I can give you that. But if I had to pick someone to fill the role of passer/puck handler, dangler/shooter, I'm picking OV because he can do all that (maybe not the passing as much) and then some. Semin is sick though, no question.

More importantly...boy do I miss Tyutin...And yes, someone needs to dig up that video again...it never gets old.
