Team Canada's Defence at the World Cup

I want to know your opinion who will be Team Canada's top six defencemen in this summer's World Cup tournament?

Now before you provide your opinions I want to show Top 10 Canadian defencemen in points, and +/- rating this year.

Points:
T1. Chris Pronger (STL) 52 Pts
T1. Bryan McCabe (TOR) 52 Pts.
3. Scott Niedermyer (NJ) 51 Pts.
4. Rob Blake (COL) 46 Pts.
5. Wade Redden (OTT) 43 Pts.
6. Brent Sopel (VAN) 41 Pts.
7. Adrian Aucoin (NYI) 40 Pts.
8. Dan Boyle (TB) 39 Pts.
9. Brad Stuart (SJ) 37 Pts.
10 Sheldon Souray (MTL) 35 Pts.

+/- Rating:
1. Adrian Aucoin (NYI) +29
2. Brad Lukowich (TB) +28
T3. Wade Redden (OTT) +22
T3. Scott Niedermyer (NJ) +22
5. Dan Byle (TB) +21
T6. Don Sweeney (DAL) +20
T6. Bryan McCabe (TOR) +20
T6. Glenn Wesley (CAR) +20
9. Jason Wooley (DET) + 19
10. Mike Rahtje (SJ) + 18

Now, I know there is more to a defenceman's game than picking up alot of points and having great +/- rating, heck some of those defencemen who rank in the top 10 in the +/- category are not even considered by Team Canada's management team.

So with that being said, who would be your top 6 defencemen if you were Wayne Gretzky and co.

I think that Jovo's got a spot on this team... considering how big a fan Gretzky is of him...

Blake, Pronger, Foote, Neidermayer will definitely be there IMO... Stevens is not a given considering his concussion and the fact he was left off the last team... Redden should be there too.

Jovo I think gets the next spot.

The only two guys I don't see back from the Olympics are MacInnis and Brewer. I think they should be replaced by Redden and McCabe.

I'd like Aucoin to be somewhere in there, he's good defensivelly, better than McCabe.

I'd love to see Rathje as the seventh D. In case one of our shut down guys get hurt.

I think it would be smart for the Canadian team to bring along a couple of youngsters. Sure they'll ride the bench, but the experience would be great for them.
Guys I can think of off the top of my head:

Barrett Jackman
Jay Bouwmeester

Thoughts??

I say no. But, I don't get to choose the team. This tournament is about winning, not development.

Assuming everyone is healthy I would take:

1-7: Niedermayer, Pronger, Foote, Blake, Jovonovski, Stevens

8/9: Phillips, McCabe - this is interchangeable. Who ever is playing better in practice could spell off someone who needs a rest or gets hurt.

I too agree with this list (except for J-Bo, don't see that happening). Aucoin brings more than McCabe.

I think Phillips should get serious consideration as well depending on how well he performs in the playoffs. He gets overlooked tho because of Redden.

I cannot see McCabe making the team over Jovo. Just wait until the playoffs and you'll see why jovocop is a lock for this team. He's a big game player.

Anyone of the last three could potentially be #7 IMO.

If players like Sopel, Aucoin and Rathje, but especially Sopel get consideration for the 7th D-man, then Philippe Boucher sure as hell deserves some as well. I mean, he has only outplayed Derian Hatcher, Sergei Zubov, Richard Matvichuk, Teppo Numminen and Darryl Sydor ever since his arrival for 2 straight seasons.

Aucoin v.s McCabe for the last spot? Or do you think both can make the team?

I would take Aucoin over McCabe. He is better defensively. To have a +29 on the Islanders is very impressive.
