Some players are like kindling on a proverbial fire. Todd Marchant, anyone? Adam Foote? Andrej Nedorost?!?

In spite of the appeared information, that attacking Nikolai Zherdev signed contract with the Ufa [Salavatom] By [yulaevym], hockey player himself stated that he did not sign any contracts in Russia and would want to continue career in NHL, reports correspondent AllHockey.Ru.

Okay, so we're back to some semblance of sensibility.

This is in English. A little easier to read than some of the translated articles.

The Evil me sort of likes that idea but no way is Z and Filatov playing with Pahlsson. He's a checking line center and that is no checking line.

Let's assume the stars align and this happens (and it won't for good reason)
Torres-Pahlsson--Modin would be the third line. Of course the checking line is generally a group of physical sorts designed to annoy the other top lines, in part because no one can afford four scoring lines. But supposed we got Z and Manny for one year. Which would make our 4th line
Filatov-Manny-Z.

You'd get a lot of goals per minute from that line. So it's fun to think about. But I can easily live with a mix of Filatov-Murray-Dorsett-Boll and Chimmer in there. We win a lot of battles with that bunch and without Z.

Take it for what it's worth, but LTL has a good write-up on an interview XGMDM had where he addressed Zherdev.

The Post has learned that the agent for Nikolai Zherdev, who rejected the Rangers' $3.25 million qualifier and then became a free agent when the team walked away from his $3.9 million arbitration award, called the club this week offering to return for $3.25 million. The offer was refused.

Gee, why not go to the KHL with all those alleged tax-free, big rubles being offered to him?!?

That is what I heard also. His agent was some Russian...Sasha something or other. Then I heard he was using the same agent as Kovy, but it wasn't the name that matched what was given in the NY Post report.

That sucks for the Rangers, he's a better option than Kotalik.

The same NY Post article also stated "Marian Gaborik did not take part in a sprint drill on Saturday due to a tender groin muscle." And yet, they STILL don't want Z.

Agreed, but a case could be made it was the final straw that broke his back.

1. Zherdev shouldn't have been here. XGMDM allegedly overruled his scouts.
That mistake led to...
2. Not drafting Phaneuf, as the scouts allegedly wanted, which led to a lack of talent on defense we've been struggling to overcome since.
3. XGMDM had to trade for Fedorov in attempt to find a mentor for Z. This was one of his worst trades as GM for the CBJ.
4. The Z pre-camp sideshow with him threatening to play in Russia led XGMDM to acquire Anson Carter.
5. We'll never know how Z impacted team chemistry while he was here.

Rolland Hedges was (possibly still is) Zherdev's agent for both of his contract negotiations (MacLean to Sather). His first agent (unless he had/has two--one for overseas) was Sasha Tyinych.

I don't get why he's trying so hard, even somewhat swallowing his pride, to stay in the NHL, when he's been dying to flee to the KHL for so long.

It's looking a lot more likely that he'll end up there, but I hope people will abandon their long-held belief that he'd be fleeing there at the drop of a hat. But then, I've actually read the studies about how likely that is to occur

I don't think the Zherdev thing was a final straw, it was a culmination of many things that led to his firing.

If he pointing to something related to Zherdev as to why he was fired, the guy is just flat out delusional, clueless, and he will never 'get it'.
