So long, JR. You'll go down in history as one of the icons in this league, not only for your role in NHL 94.

Lame

It sucks that the sharks ruined his chances at winning a cup.

Sorry JR, you deserved a cup

Already bummed about the coming season at this point, this has me damn near depressed.

Not surprising, but sad. Looking forward to seeing what his next gig will be.

Really hoped he would get that cup.

Yup, because so many teams were lining up to sign him the last few years.

Huh?

Sharks were the ones who gave him another chance to win the cup.

I hope to see him take a role somewhere in the SJ organization.

I'm really glad I got my JR jersey last week. NHL.com won't make retired players/numbers.

He will be in the hall of fame in the not-too-distant future. His personality, heart, and grit will go down in history and I am proud that he is retiring in Teal.

Doesn't say much for his feelings on the Sharks winning the cup.

He must really be out of gas if he is going out now instead without a cup. I was really hoping out that he'd return next season. I've been watching hockey since I was a kid and JR has been one of my idols growing up. His heart, personality and passion is something that transcends the sport of hockey and it is personally inspiring.

He'll end up in the Hall of Fame for sure. 500+ goals. Amazing playoff numbers. One of the greatest American hockey players to play in the NHL.

But I don't want to put words in his mouth ...

TFP is not what I call a great source; it's usually the secondary or tertiary or worse type of rumor source.

But going to the full story link: http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/sjs090804.html -- makes it more plausible that JR slipped news to an old buddy in Chicago.

CSN to have full interview Thursday on Chronicle Live with JR to discuss his retirement.

Time to set those DVRs.

Hope he moves up to the broadcast booth, although I wouldn't be surprised if he helped out with Phoenix commentary, since he lives there and I believe Pang is moving to network tv

This has got me more bummed out that I expected. I didn't realize till now how much I loved seeing him on the ice every time he took a shift.

Yep, good for JR. It was so much fun with him. I was one of his biggest fans when he signed originally with us mane.... I remember that ****.

But yeah, too bad McLellan didn't play more games with Real Thugs and Winners in the playoffs, so JR could have won his Rings and Cups. McLellan is a fool. JR is a fool for this game. Thanks for the years and memories.

Now coming back to us.... we now need more Real Thugs. Charisma.

That's a pretty simple thang really. It's called Charisma. You can call it so many other thangs as well. But charisma is what we need now. We gotta get some new Thugs back.

Owen Nolan has charisma.

He might still get that. But not as a player.
Maybe an assistant coach, advisor, or something like that. He won't be coaching soon though.. it takes some time. Maybe in two years or something like that mane.
