I'm not surprised this kid is looking for a long term contract. I wouldn't want to be a journeyman at his age.

Leafs have the cap space for a very legitimate 1st liner.

My bid: 3 years, 4.5 mil. (13.5 mil)

This in my opinion is somewhat similar to what Antropov is getting with the Thrashers. (16.24 mil/4 years)

Zherdev > Antropov

You would think so, but maybe nobody wanted him for 1 year without giving up some salary.

Toronto could be tempting for him, he seems to like the limelight, and we've got oodles of that.

You know Burke's at least contemplating it.

I don't know anything about their cap right now maybe the Red Wings try to work something out with him as a Hossa/Hudler replacement.

He's European, Burke won't even think about signing him. The only thing he's ever done with Europeans so far is trade them away. Hasn't signed OR drafted one yet

Are you so willing to fit Burke's actions in to your preconcieved notions about him that you refuse to even think 1 second about your statement? Gustavsson, Wallin, Grabovski....

they play with Edge. Goaltender doesn't matter where he's from as long as he's big.

the problem is the top 6 forwards are too European. You have Poni, Grabo, Kulemin, Tlusty, Hagman (depends) on your top 6. That number should balance out in the future.

Haha, it doesn't matter where they are from regardless of position. Burke wants them to play a North American STYLE. So if the European players fit that style, it isn't an issue.

Some people do not realize this. Selanne, Sedin's, he just resigned Grabovski for what some people feel is an overpayment, etc, etc. They are European, that play North American hockey.

It is quite simple. Drafting this year, however, I have no argument for. Late round gems that are found are 95% European.

Why say no? He comes free and is a 60+ point guy....we have the cap room and as long as its under 3 years, why not see what he can do?

He has immense talent and the potential is still there (only 24!!!).

I think in our position is stupid not to take the chance....

Gustavsson - he's a freakin' goalie, who cares where he's from.
Grabovski - lol resigning an RFA doesn't count as him signing a European, it's controlling your assets
Wallin - he plays such a NA game, he might as well be North American

Let's real, we won't sign Zherdev because HIS STYLE OF PLAY is too European for Mr. Burke.
