Reasoning...We lack a powerplay quarterback and Schneider is a good one who can also be a good presence in the locker room. We also need to bring Betts back. The fact that he is still out there, maybe we can even bring him in for under 1M. I dont understand the love for Boyle - a guy who the LA Kings clearly did not want in their future, has played around 50 games in his career, and would be our second rookie center. Betts was so important to our success the past few seasons and has anyone ever heard of stability. All these changes are freaking me out. Betts is as much of a calming presence as humanly possible.
P.S. I dont think we have the money to bring in a 3M+ guy like Tanguay.
I want Avery in the top 6. Remember how good he was the last week of the season and in the playoffs? Maybe he was on a hot streak but you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt...
I do give him the benefit of the doubt man i really do, I wasn't on HF at the time but i really was sad to see him go and pumped when he came back but he really deserves a spot on nothing higher than the third line.
Higgins, Cally, and gabby deserve a top 6 spot more than avery does.
and kotalik was brought in with a reunion with drury specifically in mind (BTW i think we might end the year with a third line of avery-Drury-kotalik if lisin-anisimov perform as well as i think/hope they can)
and lastly i honestly think that he is most effetctive the less he is on the ice (to a certain extent) when he is getting top 6 minutes is when he is potting the odd puck yes but also when he draws 3 dumb penalties a game especially with the way the refs focus on him
i see what your saying but look at our forward situation realistically man he's gonna be on the third line and get bumped to the 4th if grachy lights it up.
The thing I like about the forward lines is that they actually have a couple players on the 4th line who can step up and play on the higher lines if need be. I really believe Boyle will be moved up from the 4th line before the end of the season.
Gilroy-Sangs (I want Schneider here)
Barring any moves, I think thats close to where we'll be with the possibility of Arnason taking the 4th line center role.
I think Torts will try Drury up top with Gaborik as you have but im not sure if that wil lalst or if Dubi will show up big time in camp and sticks there when he has the shot. Something is telling me that Dubi isnt gonna get off to such a hot start this year, which makes those lines palatable.
I think everyone knows how i feel about Gilroy, if he makes the team, fantastic. But i cannot pencil him into the lineup when he has no NHL experience. I can however live with the idea he could be on the 3rd pairing with a defensman taken from the current market. Some have him plugged into the 2nd pairing and i cant see how you can do that without figuring 3 rookies make the d squad. To me thats nuts.
I think this lineup up front is pretty interchangeable though. Guys like Lisin, Avery and Anisimov all could be given top line responsibility with their capabilities. Also guys like Higgins, Drury, Cally and Kotalik can slide up and down as well.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I still think they are going to go after one more proven offensive winger and a depth defenseman. That would balance things even more and give the team good depth if they run into any injury problems or if certain players aren't cutting it.
I'm interested in seeing Torts plans for the PP and what personnel he plans on icing. I think this team is capable of sporting a more aggressive PP from both units.
I think with this team, you can really see that consistency, effort and finish will be rewarded. Players can move from spot to spot if they get hot or cold, lending a nice accountability level to the team. We'll see how it plays out, but they are lacking one more finisher up there and a solid D guy thats seen more than 1 NHL game.
